I like how the trip planner today assumes that people may do a mix of
driving and transit to get where they want to go, and doesn't insist
that you do transit all the way, for example. But...it would be really
nice if I could get the trip planner to understand the particular
route I like to take (so I can then use the real time data FOR that
route).

Example. I want to go from Stevens Creek and Miller Ave Cupertino to
1001 Bayhill Ave San Bruno. If I do this, the application assumes that
I might drive to Caltrain (which is what I do), but doesn't give me
the option of which station I would go to, and it never picks the one
I _actually_ use - Sunnyvale. From there, I'm willing to walk a mile
from San Bruno Caltrain to my work, but it assumes I would take a bus
to cut the distance.

My point is...I don't know how hard this would be to do, but it would
be really awesome if the web trip planner had the ability to put in
multiple points, and something like 'I will walk', 'I would like to
use transit', 'I will drive' between those points, to make a custom
plan for you. As it is, when you can only put in your start and
destination, it sometimes doesn't see the path you might use for your
own convenience. Why does this matter? Because if you can't put in
your own trip, you can't see the real time data FOR the trip you take!

The feature I'm describing would probably be a 'power user' feature,
I'm guessing. But I really do like the 'Your trip saves this much
CO2', especially when it's a driving transit mix. The home run would
be if I can punch in my own route the way I want it, save it to the
web planner, and then 'star it' so that I can use it on my mobile
phone.

Robert: Again, many thanks for your suggestions, I gratefully
appreciate that,

The suggestion of making the trip planner able to accept intermediate
points in addition to o-d is really a good one,
and is part of our plan. Currently our planning engine does not support
such functions, adding this feature would take a while, but we do intend
to implement this,
The desired UI would be to allow the user to drag the "inter-modal"
joint points, say a pin at the train station where you park your car,
and allow the user to drag drop that pin (or select from a drop down
list) to use a different station, etc, also to allow the user to add
"via points" when planning a trip.

While on our PATH2Go website, we have one way to get real-time train
information without planning a trip like that,
which is to search for a certain route that you are interested in using
the search box on top of the map,

then click the stop name (Sunnyvale) you want to start from, or click
on the "Arrivals from now" to see real-time information for all stops,
you can also customize that table by pickup only the ones you are
interested, and that will be saved for later usage.

Thanks
Liping.
