Security Alert - Phishing E-mails

I received the following alert from our NOC in NWFL with reference to Ebay and PayPal phishing e-mails that are being targeted at users within our company.  If users click on the links it will take them to a website and try to install a rootkit and a couple of other nasty goodies on their computers.  See the message below..  

All,

We have received reports from several markets that bogus emails that look like they originate from EBay and PayPal are making it into user’s inboxes.

These messages contain bogus links to known phishing sites that will attempt to install malware, Trojans, botnets, and/or Root Kits if clicked.

 

We will be sending out another email to all end-users warning them of this, but I’d like to give you the advanced warning of this issue.

If you have heard of anyone receiving the email, please follow up with them and verify whether or not they clicked any of those links.

 

Symantec real-time protection is catching most of these, but we did hear of at least 1 computer that was not fully cleaned.

Theres a good article on how to spot a fake email from PayPal. It gives you some good insight.
