We have had a number of requests recently about volunteer management systems. Unfortunately, at least so far, we do not know of any free or cheap ones.  So the question remains - how do you manage your volunteers? What do you use to keep track of them and how do you go about scheduling them for events or work times?

We use DonorSnap to manage our donations ($40/month), and there is a way to manage volunteers on there, but it's not the easiest tool, and so, our volunteer coordinator hasn't been using it.  ;-)

Uh, ok. That's not good!  Is it a training matter? Or a bad program matter?  Guess I should look at that one.

I've recently learned about a Drupal distribution that does volunteer scheduling. Combined with CiviCRM, it could cover the full range of needs for donor and volunteer management, including self sign-up for volunteer shifts. Check it out at http://drupal.org/project/volunteer_rally
