I am going to do a test run of the event on May 21/22 at a PATC cabin
with the U. of Maryland trail club, and work with them on designing
the guidelines for the Challenge. We can then think about putting all
the clubs together at Blackburn or Schairer in the autumn, and run the
real GPS university challenge. In the meantime, we should be thinking
about what WE would like to get out of this interesting exercise.

Another option would be to send the students out to GPS the trails in
Sky Meadows or in G. Richard Thompson WMA. There are lots of trails
there.
They will be lodging at Blackburn on May 21/22, so work for them near
that location would be the best.

Thompson WMA would be my first request. It is a big question mark as to what trails exist there.
As with most ancillary activities involving the mapping committee, my participation will be minimal. Until i have the lot of our map stock digitized.

Would May 21/22 be too late for Map 8 revisions? One possibility
would be to send the students in groups to check out all the AT side
access trails that are shown on Map 8 (there are quite a few). It
would be good to know that all these access routes still work if we
are going to print them on a new version of Map 8.
