Hi all,

Would it make sense to add native support for flrig, as an alternative to hamlib/rigctld?

It seems we have a fair amount of users that prefer this over hamlib, so it just dawned on me that it might be a good idea to remove the need to use rigctld as a middleware in those cases.

Please let me know what you think, so I can decide if it's worth the effort :)

Thanks!

Hello Martin,

Given enough interest I would favor providing a choice between hamlib
and flrig.

FWIW I personally prefer hamlib because it does not require a gui. It
has been some few years since I tested flrig but when I last did flrig
required a gui. Perhaps that has changed? For me a gui can get in the
way especially for headless systems.

Thanks for the input Rich,

That's why I also prefer hamlib over flrig. I run every service in Docker these days, and having it headless is much more convenient in that environment.

I believe flrig is GUI-only, and my impression is that this is why some prefer it over hamlib. For those users, I imagine rigctld is just an annoyance and complicating factor.

Just to be clear: If we'd do this, it would be in addition to the hamlib support we already have.

Looking forward to hearing from others as well :)

To be honest, I'm Window User. If it was for Jason KM4ACK and the Linux 73. I would not be using Pat. I use FLrig for all of my modes like VaraAC to Fldigi

AFAIK, FLRig can also use hamlib or the xml file for a particular rig.
Yet hamlib is far far more important to this antique ham.

I would prefer to use Flrig. macOS is my OS of choice followed by Linux.

That said, I already use Flrig with an Apple Script ("rigctld -m 4") so either way is fine with me.

I am a linux user and use pat on multiple devices. I have a IC-7000 currently, but have used many other rigs in the past. I would prefer using rigctld or other means so that operation without a GUI is possible.
