So I have a Kenwood TM-D700a and have it set for KISS modem.  Currently have pat working on telenet but not sure what I need to do to get VHF/UHF working.

This is running on a raspberry pi 4 and I've been using KM4ACK's videos but nothing he has shows a built in modem on the radio that I can find.

I did a search for D700 and didn't find anything but figure someone has done this before.

I started to reply but then realized that you have a TM-D700 and I have TM-D710 which is probably different. I did look in the D700 manual and found out that there is a manual "Specialized Communication" that is referenced and probably has the information you need for the physical connection (cables etc).

I run Pat on a Pi but have not run anything like the D700 or D710. I believe what you need to look for is something like "serial TNC". You will have to define a TTY connection in the Pat configuration file. It might be the location in the configuration file:

  "serial-tnc": {
    "path": "/dev/ttyUSB0",
    "serial_baud": 9600,
    "hbaud": 1200,
    "type": "Kenwood",
    "rig": ""
  },

If this is it, you probably won't need to modify it for 1200 Packet. If you are running something else, I don't have a clue.

If I get a minute, I'll try it with my MFJ serial TNC that I have. It's just too darn cold to go out to the truck and try it with my D710.

Good luck,
Dave

I always get caught by using the wrong email address….

This might help:

I’ve been meaning to get the Pi version done but the vagrant setup should help. Start with install.sh to see what I did to configure things.

I run a D710 via USB serial port which plugs in to the serial din6 — not the audio din6.  I’ve done this with a D700 as well and it’s basically the same. You are using the built-in TNC in this setup.

I hope this helps.

Thank you that is a help.  I'm currently using the TM-D700a as a serial TNC with xastir so it looks like it will be a similar setup with pat.  Did you have to install the ax.25 package?

Yes you need ax25 for kissattach etc.
