I went wedding dress shopping over the weekend and at one of the salons they had a no pictures rule. You're only allowed to take pictures once you purchase the dress. Has anyone else ran into this? It makes no sense to me as dresses can look different in pictures so there was no way that I was going to buy a dress without seeing it in a picture. Plus its hard for me to include those dresses in my consideration set since I can't look at them. I'm also just not sure what purpose it serves because they carry popular designers and I was easily able to look the dress up online.

I wouldn't completely rule out that salon based on just that. To me it's about how I feel in the dress. Had we not taken pics of my dress I would still love it. I also only went to one salon. I suppose it's different if you're to completely sold and need to think it over.
One salon I went to had that policy--I assumed it was because the shop had some "exclusively carried here" dresses, and they didnt want me photographing those. However, they were more than forthcoming with the designer and style # for the dress so I could look it up online and ogle it as much as I wanted.

I was very happy with the salon. Both of the salons are beautiful, and other than the bouquets and flowers at the front, we just had rose petals on the aisle. The Primrose Garden is also beautiful, but by choosing the indoor location- we didn't have to worry about the weather.
As for the photographers, we were told at the time that no outside photographers were permitted. I remember asking if we paid a fee if we could use someone else, and we were told no. So- it sounds like they changed their policy, which is good. I was not thrilled with my Cashman photos- some of them were fine, but many of them did not turn out the way I had hoped (our post-wedding champagne toast photos have a huge "exit" sign in them over our heads; the photographer wasn't familiar with the hotel- i.e. she didn't know about the flower covered carousel and balloon at the entrance; limited number of poses; lighting issues, etc.). I do have some photos that I liked, and we did have a photo tour that night with a separate photographer that turned out well. However, if you have the extra money and are permitted to have the outside photographer, you may want to consider it.
