PMA News Updates

PMA Petition

The 2015 PMA Petition was submitted to the State Board of Elections Division with a total of

17,862 Massachusetts certified voter signatures

See the town-by-town breakdown here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2xo7VON7bvtZjI1aDRjQllOWGc

That is a 145% improvement over the 2014 petition drive results.  Great work PMA Team!

State House

Wednesday, April 6th is the date of the next MA Constitutional Convention at the Massachusetts State House.

PMA members have been meeting with Legislators this February and March to push this legislation forward.

PMA supporters are urged to ramp up advocacy for H_933 & S_53 during the month of March. If we hope to get action this legislative session, April 6th may be the last opportunity for these PMA supported bills to come up this session, and may be the only actionable options available on campaign finance reform left this year. Money overtaking our election process is a hot topic on the presidential candidates' list of talking points this election season, with both political parties rallying for change! PMA's window of opportunity to push these bills forward is here, now. The final Constitutional Convention before these two bills are shelved is fast approaching.

Other News Items

As both the PMA ballot initiative and companion legislation have to go through the State House, we have decided at this early time to cite that one of our co-sponsors, MA State Representative Jay Livingstone, is running for higher office in an upcoming April 12th special election for State Senator in the 1st Suffolk and Middlesex district, to replace Senator Petrucelli.

We need to be clear that we are non-partisan and not endorsing any candidate or any other issue. If any other candidate in the race pledges to endorse our ballot initiative and state that they will vote for our legislation, we will post that announcement in future emails.

With the upcoming election season we feel a need to let our supporters know who will actually vote in favor of our efforts. This is new to us and there will most likely be slight adjustments as we move forward, but, we encourage all to speak about PassMassAmendment at upcoming debates and ask for the candidate’s position, and we expect to provide a place to post the hopefuls for State Senate and State Representative as those offices directly affect our effort.  - NB
