Do you want to stay up to date on current energy management practices and developments in Saskatchewan? Would you like to meet other professionals working in the field? The Energy Management Task Force (EMTF) invites you to join us at our monthly breakfast meetings with speakers presenting on a variety of topics related to energy conservation and management. Although meetings are currently on-line due to COVID, networking and group discussion remain core elements of EMTF.
The EMTF promotes energy conservation and management to reduce energy use, operating costs, and greenhouse gas emissions. The Saskatoon Energy Management Task Force is a voluntary, non-profit organization. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in energy management.
While our meetings are on-line, attendance at meetings is free. Normal rates, including breakfast, are: Annual membership $100, Drop-in fee $20.
Our usual schedule is:
7:30am – 7:45am – Casual conversation and open forum
7:45am – 8:00am – Check-in and announcements.
8:00am – 8:40am – Presentation
8:40am – 9:00am – Q & A
We meet the first Wednesday of the month, from September to June.
Although we leave 20 minutes for Q&A, we often cut off questions because we run out of time, as this is a very engaged group with a wide variety of expertise in energy management.
If you would like to be added to our mailing list to ensure you get the announcements for upcoming meetings, please email con...@emtfsask.ca. And please share this with any colleagues who you think may be interested.

Title :Build Better
Build Better Wall Assemblies:
The Canadian construction industry is undergoing significant changes that will improve the overall energy performance of buildings. By 2030, the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) will aim to achieve net zero energy consumption for all new buildings in Canada. This means that all new buildings will have to generate at least as much energy as they consume every year.
Since SOPREMA* is the manufacturer of several products used in building assemblies, it is very important for us to understand the interaction between materials in order to offer solutions to build better. The energy used to heat or cool a building should not be lost due to poor thermal insulation strategies, significant air leaks, or thermal bridges.
About the Build Better Guide:
This generic guide is intended for professionals involved in the design, implementation and construction of commercial buildings. It will support them in the creation of energy efficient buildings meeting the requirements of the NECB. This guide describes exterior wall assemblies that have been “tested and approved”. These assemblies are divided into two main families, namely exterior continuous insulated wall and hybrid insulated wall. More specifically, this guide indicates the insulation thickness required to meet the NECB requirements (U-value or effective R-value) for each insulation technology offered by SOPREMA. This data was determined through several tests and simulations carried out by Morrison Hershfield.
This guide will help professionals choose the appropriate solutions for designing exterior wall assemblies, whether they’re selecting an air barrier, insulation technology or accessory products compatible with other materials.

Les is a frequent presenter and has co-authored a number of technical articles. Key career highlights include serving as a board member and President of the British Columbia Building Envelope Council and acting as a co-chair of the Canadian Conference on Building Science and Technology in 2017. From a home base in Greater Vancouver, Les has focused primarily on the Western Canadian and Pacific Northwest regions and markets (residential, commercial, industrial: buildings and infrastructure). As a member of the Strategy and Innovation Group at Soprema, Les is committed to developing systems and assemblies that meet and exceed building, fire and energy codes while considering the significant challenges facing our industry today including climate change, durability, resiliency, environmental concerns, cost effectiveness, constructability and a significant impending shortage of experienced trade contractors.
