Has anyone had luck getting building departments (inspectors) using the Uniform Plumbing Code to sign off on the use of air admittance valves? We have a project underway in Issaquah and the inspector kindly pointed out that the UPC prohibits their use. Thanks!

Cheers,
Markus

Pretty sure Dan Whitmore did it in Seattle on his house!

King County has a document allowing them, though have not checked if current since it mentions 2003 UPC.
under Air Admittance Valves, third line item on the web page.

Oregon is a UPC state, and we have obtained permission for 100% AAV-ventilated plumbing systems by City of Portland so long as there is relief for any positive pressure.  See the report at https://www.ecobuilding.org/code-innovations/case-studies/plumbing-venting-with-air-admittance-valves

Studor employs Pat O'Neal, a Master Plumber, who will meet with and give a presentation to your building department.

Best,
Tad
