Our very first bolero - introduce yourself to Allegra. This long sleeve bolero is our modern, minimalist take on the classic shrug. Allegra is a terry bolero that is ready to take any fit to the next level. Throw the Allegra over any of our matching terry pieces for a trendy look.

A staple of the Guizio wardrobe, we love a bolero. This version is crocheted with delicate lattice trim along the edge and sweet ruffled sleeves, finished with a tie detail. Wear over our Crochet Halter Mini Dress for the perfect summer evening look.

Produced blooms last autumn - shortly after planting. Survived the winter (albeit a mild one). Began the spring strongly with about 5 blooms and had about 4 more when the first flush was deadheaded. Some early leaves have damage from rose slugs - treated with neem oil and new leaves look clean. All in all, I am pleased at this early stage. If it performs like my Therese Bugnet (from Hierloom too), it's second and third years (2025 and 2026) will test its merit.

Bolero is just a beautiful gem! I have two in my tiny cottage garden. Not only is it a lovely soft white, but the fragrance is a wonderful old fashion rose. It engulfs the essence of the true rose fragrance. I have about thirty roses and Bolero is one of my top favorites.

2 x 2 hole, manure, good garden soil and some worm casings. Zone 6. I planted 5 roses around an old tree stump in mid April 2023. All did well, but the Bolero was the first to show life and and never stopped. A surprising number of blooms in the first year. Heavy spring rain, summer heat, didn't bother it. All its leaves looked healthy until freezing nights right before Thanksgiving. Looking forward to next year.

The plant arrived on time and in excellent, bare-root condition. I planted it the next day in a hole with good drainage and soil augmented with compost. I left for a five week trip and returned to find the plant fully leafed-out and presenting two flower buds both of which opened within the next week and a half. The website's photograph accurately depicts the flowers.

So there you have it. I too have observed hearty performance as reported in other reviews. I'll add that there has been no sign of black spot or other disease even though there has been a lot of rain and high temperatures. I don't plan to fertilize this year to discourage new growth and thereby reduce the risk of winter damage.

I fully expect strong performance next year. I have a four year old Therese Bugnet from Heirloom and it is a champion performer with the traits of a rugosa ancestry. It was my first purchase from Heirloom - Bolero was my second. This has been my experience, I would purchase additional plants from Heirloom without reservation.

WOW, was I ever surprised at how deeply I have fallen in love with this rose! I am going for an Alice-in-Wonderland red and white rose theme for my front garden, so I ordered Bolero along with a bunch of other fragrant red and white roses and didn't think much of her individually from the photos and description on the website. Fast-forward about seven days after I stuck her in a pot in partial shade, and she was COVERED in the most beautiful, soft, peach-centered blossoms I had ever seen, each one delicately nodding down towards the ground like a little ballet dancer in Swan Lake. The fragrance brought back memories of this fabulous Tom Ford perfume that was all the rage in the early 2000s, and I was just swept away by the delicate beauty of this rose. Months later, she is still covered in flowers every single day and is just stunning to look at. And oh, MY, that scent! Her only downfall is that she is too delicate for indoor life, and does not last very long in a vase. But float her in a small bowl next to your bedside, and she will give you the sweetest dreams before she expires. This is one to gift to your Mom, your sister, your best friend, and anyone else who deserves a little slice of heaven every morning, whether out in the garden or in a pot on the terrace. Bolero is just a STUNNING rose!

Newbie rose gardener here... I am trying to achieve the look of the below picture... can anyone advise what type of rose this is? Right now I am considering 1) iceberg, 2) flower carpet or 3) bolero... want to to stay 3-4' high max as its flanking my neighbor's driveway. Do any of these three have thorns??

Iceberg produces gorgeous sprays of pure white blossoms with beautiful golden stamens in the center of each bloom. It has a lovely fragrance; it's sweet and floral but has a hint of spice, kind of like a nasturtium. It's a very prolific bloomer! When it is in full bloom, the bush is so covered in flowers you can hardly see the leaves! The leaves are very glossy and disease-resistant as well.

A few things I forgot to mention is that it is nearly thornless, a vigorous grower and constant bloomer, very low maintenance, and that it blooms on all sides of the bush and from the bottom of the bush to the top, so that it looks like a snowball! The only problem with it is that it is a Japanese beetle magnet, so if they are a problem in your area I would steer clear of it. I have two bushes growing along my driveway; this is one of them (I took this picture in the spring):

In my work as a stylist and personal shopper, with every client I face new and different challenges. With career women I am often hunting down the most comfortable pump that can be worn 14-hours-a-day straight, for actresses I am predominantly finding dresses that will photograph perfectly from every angle as they fight off attacks from the dreaded paparazzi, and as a regular helper of brides-to-be I, of course, have to search for the dream wedding dress, but I am also dealing with a new and much requested item that brides are desperate to find, the angora bolero.

I have no doubt that the people responsible for this new bridal obsession are Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and the Duchess of Cambridge. As the newly married Catherine swept down the stairs of Clarence House on the eve of her wedding, she looked truly exquisite in her McQueen gown with a jewel encrusted waistband, and her outfit was completed with a white angora bolero.

As a regular helper of brides-to-be (and a patriotic Brit who scrutinized every detail of the wedding) at first glance, the bolero seemed rather unnecessary and extraneous. However, the more I examined the Duchess' look, the more I grew to love and understand the purpose of the bolero. The angora knit brought a softness and true femininity to her look. It was also a practical move, England in April can be rather cold, and I'm sure the bolero allowed the duchess to relax and be comfortable, and what bride doesn't want that on their wedding night?!

So back to the onslaught of requests for angora bolero's from my brides-to-be. I was faced with where to find them and had to ask myself the dreaded question, do they even exist?! Not everyone can call up Sarah Burton and the McQueen team and ask them to whip one up! Another matter I had to contend with is that I work with brides with varying budgets and timelines and I had to find a multitude of options to suit them all.

I tentatively Googled 'angora white bolero' with my fingers/legs/arms/toes crossed. I was met with a plethora of links to eBay and other auction sites screaming various self-selling headlines, such as 'Kate Middleton hand knit angora bolero' and 'Be a princess in your own knit wedding shrug-100% ANGRORA' (sic). Clicking on these links led me to photographs of middle aged women proudly sporting their carefully hand knitted 'princess shrugs'. I sighed, I appreciated these women's efforts and they had clearly put a lot of time and love into their creations, but they were undeniably hand-made and did not have a sleek enough appearance for a bride on her big day.
