Outof nowhere I suddenly got a blue screen of death for a split second and my computer came back frozen. I had to restart it and when I started Firefox it acted like it was a fresh install with everything. My theme went to default, all the addons I use acted like they were just installed, all my firefox settings are default I believe, and all my scripts from Tampermonkey are gone.
I'll be honest here, I am trying to figure out how to just get firefox back to how I had it and I don't know how to. I'm tense as all Hell and frustrated. I don't remember what scripts I had for Tampermonkey and it's just one more thing that is greatly irritating. I'm trying to find ways to roll back to how I had firefox set up before this blue screen happened while I'm also trying to work with firefox because everything is topsy tervy.
I think it would be safer to only change out selected storage folders rather than replace the entire profile. However, as long as you keep a backup of what you have now just in case, you could try it.
Based on the description of your information, it seems like there may be something wrong with your profile. Can you please see if there are multiple folders listed in your Profile Folder: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. Can you also provide support data below so we can help you further with your issue.
Note: The Troubleshooting Information page does not contain personal data, except for the full path to your profile folder. When you use one of the "Copy to clipboard" buttons, the profile path is not copied. Use other tools and methods at your own risk.
Hi Krosis13, it's possible Windows 7 made a snapshop of your Firefox profile folder during a system update. So possibly a usable copy of your Tampermonkey settings database (and other extension data) might be in there. Please do NOT use system restore as that can cause more severe data loss. Instead:
You can use a utility program to search inside restore points to try to locate an old file that's usable. (Please do NOT try to use the built-in Windows System Restore for this because you probably would lose data.) Here are the steps:
The InternalUUID for Tampermonkey is different for different users. To find it, you can open the about:debugging page and scroll down to Tampermonkey. That will enable you to explore the correct folder.
You can export interesting files to a convenient location such as your currently live desktop. Unfortunately, Firefox's IndexedDB databases contain binary data, so unless someone has created a conversion tool, in order to use the file, you'll need to exit Firefox, swap in the old file, and then cross your fingers and start Firefox again.
@jscher2000I didn't see [profile folder]\storage\default\moz-extension+++InternalUUID\idb but considering I found the 21dudruc.default profile in C:\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy8\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles could I use that to replace my current one to get everything back?
@jscher2000I copy and pasted the newer profile in case I had to go back but when I replaced it with the earlier version from using System Restore Explorer everything has seemed to be back the way it was. Thank you a ton man and thank to everyone else who helped.
Steps to reproduce:
Violentmonkey, the script can be installed normally but the script has no effect.
This is the extension I use
-US/firefox/addon/tampermonkey/
This is the script js I use
-pagetual >
Firefox is all updated and happy. I install the AddOn, and, for a brief flash the icon for Tampermonkey is there, then it disappears. The only reason I know it's still on the addon bar is because there's an empty space. I put my mouse over the space and a small, dashed-lined horizontal rectangle highlights that's Tampermonkey, and when I click on it, a white box pops up with a swirly thing in the top, left corner. It swirls for a while then an error comes up that says it couldn't start and I should close Chrom (I'm using Firefox!) and asks if I want to go to the forums. If I click 'Yes', 'No', Cancel', 'Get me some pizza!" all it does is close th ebox and I'm back to Firefox.
I've completely removed Firefox from my system (and I mean completely, removing left over registry entries, folders etc), and all addons, then reinstalled all fresh and happy and tried Tampermonkey again, but no success.
On the other occasion, the add-on just did not like another add-on I had enabled at the same time - I found this by disabling all add-ons then re-enabling one at a time until I found the one causing a problem so you could try that & see if you can find anything
I've tried that. Didn't seem to make a difference. I tried disabling them all, then adding one at a time, as well as installing it first after I did the reinstall of FF, but it still didn't work. Very odd. I'd love to get this running...
With Firefox 47.0.1, on win 8.1, Tampermonkey version 4.2.5291 is working fine here. Although I usually use Chrome, but I do have it installed in Firefox for testing.
Are you using the most up-to-date versions of everything? (Okay, maybe not Windows... :))
(Hmm, I have FF v47, and it says it's up to date. Strange.)
Anyway, it may take you to the very same page in the end, but please try installing it following the links from the official site here:
That should take you to the correct download page on the Mozilla Addons page.
Yes, both machines are running the same OS. I loaded it up in Chrome on my home machine and it works fine. I could just use that instead, but I have a real aversion to switching browsers for different purposes. It seems... weak on the part of the browser.
So I've installed greasemonkey on my FF at home. I went through the list of scripts and installed just about every one of them (I didn't install any related to the Forums). Here are the ones that don't seem to work:
I know you said you can't guarantee they would work, I just thought I'd let you know what I found. At least I can sort by % which is huge! Also, if I need to update my wishlist, I can switch over to Chrome and do it, I suppose.
Thanks for trying these. I went ahead and gave them a try with greasemonkey. Here's what I found:
Sum Prices - this one works, this was actually the first I tried with greasemonkey to see if it works. You should have no issues with this.
Find Products That Are In Multiple Sales - we'll get back to this after the PA and PC+ sales. There are no multipla sales going on right now, so there's nothing to try this on.
Add Wishlist Icon to Category page - this is clearly broken in greasemonkey. only works with tampermonkey. This actually breaks everything else, so you should disable this in greasemonkey, until further notice.
Mark Encrypted Items - this should work, it showed both the productlist icon, and the checkout warning for me.
Release Date for New Items - doesn't seem to break anything else, but does not work in greasemonkey
Wishlist Notification - I left this to the end to give it a good test, and found that this one should work fine in greasemonkey, too. Both the manual update and the autoupdate in the background. It doesn't even ask for that extra permission that tampermonkey asks for.
Disable the ones that do not work (Add Wishlist Icon to Category page, Release Date for New Items) and see if you can get the others working without these.
For reference, this is my system I tried it on: Win 8.1, FF 48.0.2 (still not the latest version? ehh...), Greasemonkey 3.9
Update: FF finally updated to 49.0. I'm not trying everything again, but Wishlist notification works, and sum prices works, too.
As far as FireFox settings go... This is not my main browser, so I think I have everything on default factory settings.
