PASMAP President's Letter

To all PASMAP, Inc. members,

 

Hi! You’re all probably wondering why there’s no announcement yet regarding our annual convention. I would like to apologize for the late posting. I have been so busy with the various accreditations for OLFU College of Medicine. We have just finished with our ISO re-certification last October for which I am the Quality Assurance Officer of the College as well as an Internal Quality Auditor for the University. At present, we are busily preparing for two more accreditations (New York State Board of Education and PAASCU) for which I am overall co-chairman as well as a member of the Curriculum Committee. These are the main reasons why I could not attend to our annual convention.

 

We (the officers here in Metro Manila and myself) have already undergone preliminary preparations for the convention. We have decided on research as the overall theme of the convention since I feel that this is one aspect of being in the academe that we have not touched on. We have already narrowed down on the topics to be discussed and the prospective lecturers. If any one of you has conducted a research that you would like to present during the convention, please let us know right away.

 

The tentative venue for the convention is at the newly-built Sonny Belmonte Hall of the Quezon City General Hospital near Munoz. The rent is very affordable. Dr. Susan Quaoit, one of our members, is the Assistant Administrator and has volunteered to make the necessary arrangements with the hospital. At the same time, I talked to the area supervisor of C & E Publishing and she promised to be one of the sponsors for our convention. We just need to decide on the date. I would like to ask your opinion on the possible date for our convention. We are suggesting some time January but I need to know your opinions and suggestions. Please let us know ASAP if you agree on the tentative date. At the same time, I would appreciate it very much if you could look for sponsors since we have already updated our SEC and BIR registrations.

Dear Dr. Bartolome,

Thank you for the information.  I deeply sympathize with your situation because I am also in a similar state with this accreditation process.

The proposal to focus on research during the next PASMAP convention is great considering that there are a lot of researchable topics in medical microbiology and parasitology.

May I suggest January 29 - 30 (Friday & Saturday), 2016.  These dates will give ample time to prepare for the activities and to buy the plane ticket at a cheaper price.  Two days will also give enough time for the participants to present their researches (oral or poster) and to discuss matters concerning our association.

I have one completed study in parasitology that I would like to present orally.

Again, thank you and looking forward to a very successful PASMAP Convention in January 2016.
