Humax Custom Firmware

Thisversion of the custom firmware is designed for troubleshooting and contains a kernel with PRINTK support enabled. This makes the kernel larger and consume more memory than the standard one so can result in instability. It is not recommended to use this version other than for troubleshooting and diagnostics.

This version of the custom firmware contains the stock Humax kernel and wireless driver and can be used if you experience problems using the customised one. Itdoes not contain support for iptables, GUID Partition Tables (GPT) or large drives.

We get our broadcasts from Astra 2A / Astra 2B / Astra 2D / Eurobird 1 (28.2E).Other free to air channels are available and KingOfSat lists them all.These channels can only be added via the Humax setup menus, but can thenbe presented in the normal EPG using the Channel Editor above.

I have not yet found a way to prevent automatic over the air updates from beingautomatically applied. When an over the air update is applied the Humax stillworks, but the web interface and all the add-ons stop working. The can be solvedby waiting for the custom firmware to be updated (which happen remarkably quickly)and then re-flashing the custom firmware. All the add-ons should start working again.

Yes but then you will lose the functionality of the custom firmware. If you look in the Beta section of the hummy.tv HDR-FOX T2 custom firmware forum there are links to a version of the custom firmware including the Humax fix.

I've had a Humax HDR T2 for quite a while now (Also own a Foxsat product too). At one time I had a wired internet access but no longer. The HDR works fine but when I realised I could link via w-fi I purchased a dongle from TPS. It arrived yesterday and today I've installed it and linked it to my router - OK so far.

But when I go to the TV Portal nothing works (I say nothing though I can get some content via the internet radio app but that's all). I already had iPlayer app installed but whenever I click on it, it just reboots the HDR, no error message nothing. I have installed successfully f/w 1.03.13 but makes no difference.

A new fault developed in April of this year. It was still failing about a week after your post. Although I haven't seen anything since your post about iPlayer on the HDR-FOX T2 now working, I've just tried it, and this latest issue has been fixed.

Hello, Here I have a Humax box, already made official payment. But I am in need to know the ethernet pot it has, is it for increasing more channels or what? As I have tried to plug into it a broadband Internet which it synchronised itself with no good result.

Hi there, have you found whether you can play files directly from another networked source. I have a lot of material on a NAS DLNA media server including photos which it would be brilliant to view from the PVR without transferring files.

Have you tried the custom firmware on the Humax box? Adds some really nice features, including a web interface, and remote program scheduling. I recorded a few videos showing how to install the firmware, packages, and this one showing the web interface in action;

yes install the custom portal it has a google browser but it is very tricky to navigate it through the remote so i plugged in a wireless keyboard to the front usb and it works fine its a little slower than pc but works ok this box does a lot more than it should for the price i think its a gem , ive succesfully got 4od and itvplayer through the google portal so all in all excellent

the only downside sofar is the lack of supported codecs ie most youtube stuff through the original portal dont play says unsupported codecs etc only limited to a few i wish someone would release a custom codec update so this box will play everything

I was keen to get my music accessible from the humax system and duly set up ftp and downloaded it.. To find that the humax music system is a useless system with no access to playlists or any way of sorting it. So reduced to using an old laptop and a decent music player off that. I expect more grief from Her Maj about extra black boxes cluttering the lounge.

Is there any way to get a proper music player onto the humax box?

Does it perform any other functionality than allowing files to be transferred around the network?

Any chance of being able to play 'standard' formats any time in the near future?

Remote Control using a PC, Tablet Smartphone etc. This has favourite channel selection icons and recordeable button macros.

For instance programme the sequence schedule/red to get an instant guide.

I seem to have my new Foxsat HDR working and connected to my network for iPlayer which is working fine. I've heard about some highly recommended custom firmware: is this Raydon's Media and File Server Bundle? I've read all I can find about it and it seems very techy.

Alan, yes it is that bundle - it is stable and well-tested now and enables you to copy and stream video across your home network, plus use the web interface to read the epg, set and delete recordings. There are also some functions which enable things which the Humax cannot do out of the box, like schedule recordings for non-freesat channels. And a number of additional plug-ins for various other purposes like automatic housekeeping recordings, and accessing the HDR from the internet.

Once you have installed it there is lots of documentation in the web-interface incl. a bunch of FAQs culled from several forums (we have just done a big overhaul of the documentation to make it easier to access).

P.S: just to let you know how the installation goes as a brief run-through so you're aware of the basic steps:

1. You download a file from the link above.

2. You copy the file to a USB stick, and start the HDR with the USB stick inserted to get the custom firmware on the HDR

3. This gives a basic web-interface which you can access from a computer on your home network.

4. Finalising the installation and installing any additional plug-ins is all done via that web-interface (automatic download and installation almost as seamless as an iPhone )

it would appear that the Foxsat cannot determine the IP address - normally this is a result of an incorrect DNS address. Is the Foxsats network settings static or obtained via DHCP from a host connected to the internet?

Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately I can't get past step 2. When I insert the stick and bring the box out of standby with the button pressed nothing happens except that BBC1 flashes up and then the box goes back into standby.

I note the suggestion to use a low-capacity USB stick (and Humax's recommendation to use one under 1Gb in size - heaven knows what century they're in). Perhaps that's the problem though why the size should matter I don't know. The only USB stick I have is 32Gb. I think my son has an ancient 1Gb stick: I'll ask him when he comes in and try again with that.

The Humax FOXSAT-HDR can record two channels at the same time. You can start watching a programme that is being recorded from its beginning even though the rest of the programme is still being recorded (chase play).

While dual recording, it is possible to watch any previously recorded programme on the hard drive too, while the current recordings continue in the background. Technically, it is possible for the FOXSAT-HDR to record up to four programmes at the same time; however, this feature will not be enabled on the release version but could be a free feature upgrade in the future.

With a 320GB hard drive, the Humax FOXSAT-HDR is capable of recording about 200 hours of standard definition programmes, or around 80 hours in high definition (HD). The receiver can collect the whole Freesat 7 day electronic programme guide (EPG) in around 30 seconds.

The Humax FOXSAT-HDR also has a Common Interface, which can be used for viewing encrypted channels by using a Conditional Access Module (CAM), with a valid card. No CAM modules are included with this receiver, there are currently no encrypted services listed on the Freesat EPG.

At the rear is an impressive array of connections including an HDMI socket for an HDTV. The receiver can output its high-definition pictures in 720p or 1080i, which you can choose according to the type of programme. A digital optical audio socket delivers Dolby Digital from suitably encoded HD transmissions.

HUMAX products use certain open source operating system software distributed pursuant to GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 2 and GNU LESSER GENERAL LICENSE Version 2.1 each as defined and published by the Free Software Foundation, Inc. The Humax FOXSAT-HDR, uses a Linux operating system and the hard drive is formatted using the EXT2 file system.
