- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

Lurking, not voting.

But I think the project idea is great and would love to contribute if
I was about 20 yrs younger and single :).

The real key will be in how everything hangs together - not just that
the script is Pascal. I agree PHP is a mess and I reckon if they
started again it would be done alot differently. So here's the chance
guys - good luck!

MStrong,

Thanks for your encouragement.

I expect most people on this list will be in the same position as you,
and that's cool.

You know even if you don't have the time to contribute by code or
research, there are some short and sweet things you could do to make a
one-off 5 minute contribution.

You could perhaps:
1. Suggest a product name;
2. Suggest a project name;
3. Make a logo or make a descriptive suggestion for one.

I would prefer to settle on a project name earlier rather than later, so
I can set up GoogleCode, websites etc, without having to rename them
later.

Faithfully,
Sean

For product names I like to get far away from tech sounding acronyms, etc. It's the difference between Apple and Microsoft - the names actually reflect a whole approach to technology when you think about it...

I like that Ruby was named after a person, and I suppose Rails is OK in that it suggests what it's about (well initially anyway). But I hate the name PHP. I also like products named after places, but I think in this context the name has to be a shortish single word (1-3 syllables).
The name can also be a verb, or an inspiration (person, place, sport, art, etc).  Or a noun/advective that suggests something non-techie but appealing in some way.

Usually this type of inspiration based approach to naming something would come from something important to an individual or small group of developers sharing a common interest in something.

So this is one approach to naming the product, but of course a marketer would try to make the name communicate something more directly related to the projects goals. And a techie would name it to suggest something *nix-y and anti M$. I just prefer something more off track than these approaches...

Cheers,
Michael
