Job Title:  Project Manager (PM), Limbe Wildlife Centre, Cameroon

Job Description: Collaborate with the Government of Cameroon to manage, finance and continue development of Limbe Wildlife Centre.

Reporting to: Pandrillus board(s) and the Government of Cameroon.

Organization Background:

The Limbe Wildlife Centre was created in 1993 as a result of the rapid decline of animal populations in Cameroon due to habitat degradation, poaching, and the illegal wildlife trade. Managed in partnership between the non-profit organisation Pandrillus Cameroon and the Government of Cameroon, our project is unique in Central Africa. Our mission is to ensure the survival of Cameroonian wildlife. Our team is composed of local and international wildlife ecologists and veterinarians, and a highly experienced and qualified local animal care staff. The Limbe Wildlife Centre is a founding and accredited member of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance, and the only recipient of a Clark R. Bavin Wildlife Law Enforcement Award (2019).

 VISION

Pandrillus Cameroon envisions a Cameroon where animal welfare and wildlife conservation merge and are included in the development of Cameroonian society to substantially benefit local communities and improve human well-being.

 CORE MISSION

Pandrillus Cameroon works to ensure the survival of Cameroonian wildlife through community conservation education and outreach, applied conservation science, supporting wildlife law enforcement, and the rehabilitation and release of wild animal victims of illegal trafficking.

 Cameroon Program Overview:

Pandrillus Cameroon works in partnership with the Government of Cameroon to protect globally significant biodiversity, maintain the functioning of the Limbe Wildlife Centre, a wildlife rehabilitation and education centre co-managed by Pandrillus Cameroon and the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, and develop an outreach program that will increase public engagement and participatory conservation in Cameroon. This includes a diverse set of actions that aid the government of Cameroon accomplish its goal of protecting wildlife and ensuring the sustainable management of natural resources.

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Care and welfare of ~350 animals with support from the Animal Care team and the LWC Veterinarian.
  • Work closely with Government of Cameroon agencies, including national, provincial and local authorities.
  • Develop and manage project budget, write proposals and complete annual financial and technical reports.
  • Produce regular updates, monthly and annual reports.
  • Supervise ± 50 national staff and international volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with funders and partners, including the Government of Cameroon, NGOs, donor agencies, and other private sector interests, especially other PASA members in Cameroon.
  • Represent the Limbe Wildlife Centre and Pandrillus Cameroon in official matters, to donors, media, the Government of Cameroon, and other stakeholders.
  • With support from Education staff and Animal Care Team, create plans and proposals, as needed, for Pandrillus board approval, for development and implementation of education/outreach programs.
  • With support from Animal Care Team and construction manager, oversee enclosure and existing infrastructure maintenance.  Create proposals for design and construction of new infrastructure and enclosures and implement board-approved projects.
  • In collaboration with the Government of Cameroon, ensure maintenance of grounds, equipment, vehicles, and other facility infrastructure.
  • In collaboration with the Government of Cameroon, ensure all safety and health protocols are closely followed by staff and the visiting public.
  • With support from the Animal Care Manager, oversee proposals for any in-house or external research or monitoring projects, and present these for board consideration.
  • In collaboration with the Government of Cameroon, recover illegally kept and or trafficked wild animals for placement at LWC or other PASA sanctuaries, and participate in appropriate follow-up vis a vis local public relations or legal action.
  • In collaboration with the Government of Cameroon, develop opportunities for reintroduction and release of rehabilitated wildlife species.
  • Activity planning and implementation shall involve local management team member(s) and include capacity-building components.

 Desired Experience/Qualifications:

  • A relevant academic background.
  • Experience developing and managing projects, people, teams, finance, budgeting, administration, and reporting.
  • Fundraising experience from public and private sources, foundations and individual donors.
  • Experience in captive management of wildlife, rehabilitation and release, especially primates.
  • Proven ability to lead a team in a challenging environment.
  • Significant conservation and/or development field experience, preferably Central or West Africa.
  • Proven practical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare presentations, reports, and effectively present results publicly.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, and fund-raising, communication and social media tools.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner in all situations, as fitting the representative of LWC and Pandrillus Cameroon.
  • Fluent English required; French is a major asset.

 Remuneration & Benefits

• Accommodation in Limbe provided

• Daily allowance 5,000 CFA

• Salary will be 1,000€ per month + 1,000€ / year to assist with personal insurance cover

• Annual leave of 21 working days

• Annual return flight to home country, after the initial probation period of 3 months

Minimum commitment: 2 years
