Recognizing leadership !

Create to Inspire School Program

Children are born naturalists. They explore the world with all of their senses, experiment in the environment, and communicate their discoveries to those around them. School provides a platform for lateral thinking and some of the schools have stories to share.

The ‘Create to Inspire School Program’ is an initiative by Microsoft and GIZ. In partnership with Centre for Environment Education (CEE) in Ahmedabad, the programme was launched in 2013 and now has reached to 120 schools. The programme has provided a platform for teachers and students to develop and use creative skills to build environmental action projects that initiate behavioral changes in the society on sustainable consumption.

Under the programme, schools have come up with extraordinary activities to spread the message of ‘Sustainable Consumption’. Schools like St. Kabir (Naranpura) demonstrated how to make a clay model of lord Ganesha. LKMH School in Ahmedabad celebrated ‘Friendship day with Trees’ wherein they tied friendship band to the trees. Many schools performed outreach activities on streets, in neighboring schools, vegetable markets, etc. To recognize their efforts, leadership and initiative, Center for Environment Education (CEE) has organized ‘Microsoft Create to Inspire Felicitation Ceremony 2015 ‘on27th October 2015. Environmental Education through Nature Camps:

CEE Pune, organized a two days Nature Camp for the twelve selected schools of the Western Ghats special Eco club programme. Schools from Sakri and Navapur tehsils of Nandurbar district in Maharashtra were selected for the camp that saw participation of 40 students and 17 teachers. The students to start with were a mixed group of interested and not so interested in nature camping.

Students sung songs on nature conservation, explored the bio diversity, mountain ranges, agriculture, rivers around the camping area and also played some games to understand the environment. Many other activities followed in the two days camp and the result was obvious that the students not interested in camping began to take interest with other students in the camping activities. This is a very good example of how students learn from each other and when learning is made fun for them. read more...
