Ican safely say that I am addicted to escape rooms. I mean, who else goes to two individual escape rooms in a single weekend? Heh. If you didn't already know, I absolutely love and LIVE for escape rooms, as I enjoy every single minute of this 60-minute adrenaline-rushing activity. If you don't know what an escape room is, keep on reading and I'll introduce you to one of the most fun group activities that you can ever experience in your lifetime!

OMESCAPE San Jose invited a group of friends and I to escape from one of their featured escape rooms. These three rooms included the Kingdom of Cats, Dark Altar, and Joker's Asylum. Searching for the most scariest and challenging room to escape from, I selected the Joker's Asylum for my entire group. The Joker's Asylum books 6-10 players and we had a group of seven participants. If possible, I would suggest inviting as many people as you can to an escape room. The more minds that you bring together, the more creative ways you can come up with to get out of the escape room!

Now, I can't go into detail of how the Joker's Asylum escape room went down or that would ruin the surprise for you all, wouldn't it? However, I will explain the basics of a general escape room. Basically, you are trapped in a physical room with your teammates and have exactly sixty minutes to escape the room. The goal of the game is teamwork - essentially, you need to solve puzzles and use clues to escape the room. In my opinion, it's a lot more fun to escape from a room that comes with an intense storyline and I've found from previous experiences that terrifying escape rooms are the most enjoyable (to my surprise). And just don't take my word for it - escape rooms are a LOT more fun when you experience it for yourself! So the next time that you have a free weekend with a group of friends, make a reservation at OMESCAPE San Jose and reserve your next escape room!

In fact, I have some exciting news for you guys! The Official SAW Escape was a horror-themed escape room featuring traps and puzzles. Players must overcome these obstacles to advance to the next stage of gameplay. The wow factor of life-size props and gamespaces (several pulled directly from the SAW movies) made up for some of the clunky and frustrating puzzle interactions.

Core gameplay revolved around searching, observing details, making connections and interacting with large props. It was built in a railroad style. Teams moved through the rooms at timed intervals, whether or not they had solved all the puzzles. For fans of the Saw franchise, the flow will likely bring to mind one movie in particular.

When you book a room with us, it becomes unavailable for any other players to book, so rest assured that your game will only include the people you bring with you. For this reason we require all games to be pre-paid with a credit card for at least 2 players. Other players can be added upon arrival.

Our escape games are open to any ages, however, children under the age of 10 may not understand the puzzles or be able to contribute to the game (although they love opening locks and finding hidden objects!). Some of our rooms are a little spookier than others, so if you have a child that is particularly sensitive, they may not enjoy it.

Different rooms have different maximum players, but we allow parties as small as 2 to play. Typically speaking, more players means more minds working together to solve puzzles, which means more viewpoints or ideas. This can make the rooms a bit easier to win. For most games, there is a minimum player amount of 2. Due to demand for certain games at certain times (i.e. Holidays, weekends, etc.) some games will require a 3 person minimum. We welcome our 2 player teams but 3 tickets must be purchased.

Yes. All of our reservations must be pre-paid and pre-booked online through our website. Because our rooms provide 100% private, theatrical quality experiences, we must receive payment to secure your reservation and remove it for others to play.

The minimum number of players to make a booking is 2. We recommend booking for two players to secure the room, and other players may pay separately for their spots when they arrive. Keep in mind that this will forfeit the larger group discount and room capacities must still be respected.

Due to the limited capacity of our escape room experiences, we do NOT offer refunds for any reason. We do understand that things come up and you may not be able to attend your appointment at your scheduled date and time. If this should happen, give us a call at least 48 hours in advance and we will be happy to assist you in rescheduling your experience. If you reschedule less than 24 hours before your booking, you will be subject to a $25 re-booking fee, as this does not give us adequate time to fill the spot you occupied prior to rescheduling.

The concrete idea is something I call the Gollum effect. It is a process by which regular humans are Gollumized: transformed into hollow shells of their former selves, defined almost entirely by their patterns of consumption.

Gollum is a real character. He does not evoke a one-dimensional emotional response such as identification, annoyance, pity, disgust, fear, suspicion or hate. He evokes a full-spectrum response that involves all those feelings and more.

It is tempting to conclude that the featurelessness of the One Ring symbolizes the abstract nature of the malignancy of which it is an agent. But you can read a much deeper meaning into the Lord of the Rings if you interpret the featurelessness as symbolizing purity and refinement: in the sense of cocaine.

Gollum is a creature created, and ultimately consumed by, the One Ring. Smeagol, the ordinary living being with a single fatal flaw, is transformed into a pure pattern of addictive consumption. He sustains the ring through its lost years, and is sustained by it.
