I'm testing in both Flock 1.0.5 and Firefox 2.0.0.11 on Windows Vista
Ultimate, and behavior has been exactly the same so far. If you need
me to grab a copy of the Firefox 3 Beta and test in that (or if you
need me to test on a Mac), feel free to request so.
After only ~1 day of testing, this is what I've hit upon (You may know
about these issues; A list of known issues would be a nice thing to
have):
1) Judging by the screenshots that are on the Particls website, it
looked like Particls v2 was a separate application. However, when
Chris gave me the .xpi file, I understood that it was a Firefox
extension, but upon installation, it took me a second to take the jump
and look under View --> Sidebars to get the Particls sidebar to
appear. I'm sure this can be addressed by having an initial HTML page
pop up the first time after you install and restart the extension,
explaining where it can be located in the interface. Otherwise, you
could also simply have the sidebar open by default after that initial
restart...The execution is up to you.
2) I did not have an OpenID that I was aware of when I began testing
(before findingout that my AIM screenname was already registered as
one), so when I went to "learn more" about how I could possibly get
one, the hyperlink at the bottom of the sidebar was not functional.
That should be easy enough to address, considering the URl it links to
-
v2.particls.com - doesn't exist yet. Create it and link to it. :D
3) Starting from the top after login, the magnifying glass icon does
nothing upon clicking.
4) The wrench icon - which I assume will lead to settings - leads to a
bunch of filler text which overlaps on itself.
5) Upon clicking of the "Say" field, the Twitter login prompt appears.
Since I do not have a Twitter account, I clicked "learn more." Alas,
it too is linked to the same URL as the previously noted OpenID "learn
more" hyperlink. The same solution can be applied here. (I will join
Twitter tomorrow to test the functionality of the Twitter
integration.)
6) Inline with the header "Update Stream", the up arrow does nothing.
7) Inline with the header "Update Stream", the "x" does nothing.
8) Inline with the header "Actions", none of the three buttons - up
arrow, refresh cycle, or "x" - does anything noticeable.
9) The button represented by a piece of paper with a + in the lower
right corner - which I assume to be "Import OPML" - is not functional.
10) The word "Online" simply logs the user off upon being clicked. I
am not exactly sure if this is a design decision or not, but if so,
it's a poor one, as it's not intuitive.
11) Upon switching over to the "Settings" section by clicking the
wrench, all the same problems remain, with the addition of the
"Refresh" button in line with "Settings" header not working in this
area, since obviously, there are no settings available.
As a reminder: This behavior held true over both browsers
aforementioned, and the same issues were also evident on the webpage
version of the Particls client, obviously.
Other than that, I just need to test the Twitter integration, as well
as any updates you push through in the meantime. I'll give further
notes on the results of the algorithm used to "learn" me after
allowing for a few days of usage.
