You will be enabled to create a basic timeline that you can adjust and style manually. In the end, you will be able to create a simple graphic suitable for presentations or reports created for your clients. Because Microsoft Word is a widely used text processing tool the benefit is that many of the steps might be familiar to you. On the downside, using Microsoft Word to create a timeline might lack drag and drop simplicity, or the flexibility you need to show more accurate details or update the timeline on a regular basis.

If you need to create and update timelines regularly for your slides and reports, you might use a free online timeline generator. Vizzlo offers an easy-to-use and fast solution PowerPoint add-in that will help you to automate this process. In this tutorial, you can read how to create a timeline using native PowerPoint features and how to use Vizzlo's free online tool to make a timeline in PowerPoint automatically.

In the menu bar, click on the Insert tab and choose the SmartArt button. There you will have the option to choose from different SmartArt Graphics. To create a project timeline, choose from the template section Process and then pick Simple timeline

By default, the Simple timeline will show 3 milestones and placeholders for your text. Click in the milestone's [Text] or use the text pane instead. Press Shift + Enter to insert a line break. When you use the text pane, you can easily enter more milestones. Click Enter and you will see another bullet point. Word will adjust the font size automatically depending on the number of events and the amount of text you enter.

Word offers you many ways to style your timeline. The way you set colors, font properties etc. will affect the perception of your timeline. A client might have their brand colors, font type - all can be adjusted with a few clicks manually.

Before we show you how to change a timeline, note that SmartArt offers you different templates that change the overall look of your timeline. In the menu bar, click on the SmartArt Desgin tab, then open the SmartArt Styles menu and browse the options.

It is possible to change the color of the axis just the way you change the color of like you the milestones: right-click on the arrow and use the menu that will then open. Besides the color, you can also change the width of the axis which will help make the milestones stand out more to deliver the message of your timeline.

It is certainly possible to create professional looking timeline using Word's build-in SmartArt features. This approach has a few limitations though. There is no easy way to adjust the position of the milestones by the actual date they represent. Adjust the colors and fonts requires manual work. If you work for different clients that all have their brand guidelines this is time-consuming. An easier way is to use an online timeline generator or a PowerPoint add-in.

As we said, creating a timeline manually in Microsoft Word by drawing a series of shapes and text blocks and then inserting icons will take considerably longer, but you will get a more custom and tweakable end result.

Word offers a pair of timelines in its stock SmartArt gallery, and the creation process for SmartArt timelines is considerably shorter than for custom-made ones. But the result leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Before you start creating a timeline for Microsoft Word, you first need to determine where in your document it will be placed. If it will fit in a page with other content, decide whether the timeline events will fit within a heavily horizontal layout.

Keeping projects on track is crucial to the success of any organization. In some cases, a delay of even a day could cost big bucks. Project timelines can be used during the planning phases of projects and during the process to keep everything moving smoothly.

Timelines can also be used to catalog events from the world at large, including ancient and recent history. These types of timelines are most often used for content marketing purposes, but they can also be used to educate and inform within Word documents.

Word documents default to a letter-sized page, or 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall. With a standard 1-inch margin around the page, that leaves a vertically oriented rectangle on each page. When creating timelines for Word, consider ones that get the most of portrait orientation.

Project management timelines are easy to slot into contracts for client review or other planning documents formatted in Word. Add some images of your actual projects to further engage your team and clients.

Add some light data visualization like this project plan timeline. Note how each week is color-coded and a new team or task is highlighted. This is helpful to help team members understand how their tasks may intersect or overlap with teammates.

This horizontal timeline created to illustrate the events in the corporate history of Nike could easily be updated for event planning. Think of it as a calendar. When and where will activities happen and who will be involved?

This history timeline would be easy to modify for an event timeline. Use the circles and icons to plug the keynotes and other major events and use the smaller text to provide important supporting information.

One of the most recognized project management tools is the timeline: a chart to help people visualize deadlines, statistics, events, or milestones in chronological order. Project timelines can be simple or packed with details to demonstrate a time period for a given project.

The section on trademarks is an excellent illustration of the fallibility of dictionaries and the changing nature of our language. The word "dumpster" is a genericized trademark, so it is no longer capitalized. This is because of trademark erosion, and the fact that the trademark is expired. The case of the word "Windbreaker" is interesting, in that the original trademark filed by John Rissman & Son, referring to a type of jacket, is now expired. However, a new trademark has been filed in the category of shower curtains. So, in most cases, "windbreaker" should be lower-case. Link to dead patent: =doc&state=4810:gulyye.2.16

2. Can you list which chapters you haven't added yet so we can help? For example, I notice that you don't have chapter 3, as Cem's timeline did. Also, might you be off by a day for the whole timeline? Two days before Light day might be Ishishev instead, and it could solve the Eshonai problem.
