Books Came

In honor of Susie's birthday, the books have come.

I propose that we start up the week of Channukah.  I will host the first one (since I have the books)  We can do it early, light channukah candles together, and children and dogs are welcome, Jeremy can watch the kids.  Or we can do later, whichever people prefer.  What night are we looking for?  Tuesdays and Thursdays are out I think, so we are looking at Monday or Wednesday.

Also, here is my suggestion for a new description in the shul newsletter

The Rabbis of the Talmud and their Aggadoth: Please contact Ahava or Yoella if you are interested in joining in the weekly study of the aggadoth of the Talmud, viewed through the lens of the Rabbis who taught them.  We will be using the Encyclopedia of the Rabbis of the Talmud and the Ein Yaakov as our sources.  All are welcome! 

Let me know if you have any changes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  May your year be full of excitement, on the level of what you experienced when you saw the first preview for Ender's game;)

I just want to clarify, because it was not clear in the email chain-

The new learning group will be starting up on the last night of chanukah, Wednesday December 4th. We will NOT be meeting on the first night of chanukah, which is this Wednesday.

Learning is on, hopefully, tomorrow night at my house.  Jeremy won't be home, so Neli and Neima will be around, as a heads up.  If you want to light candles together and eat dinner, would 6:45 work?  Respond to me if you are planning to make it.  

I started looking at the encyclopedia and it has a really nice introduction, talking about the different time periods of the rabbis.  This might be a good place to start for our first class, or we can dig right in to the agadoth, whatever everyone prefers.

Our first meeting last week was a smashing success - the new material is very interesting!

Yea this week is insane for me too. Sadly next week (new years week) is even worse for me since I'm taking vacation and I'll be in NYC from Tuesday through the following Monday. So I can meet Monday December 30 (a week from tomorrow) if that works for people, otherwise I will reconvene the week after New Years (and obvs you're welcome to meet without me).
