Citizen science saving lives!

This vinaceous-breasted parrot was released at the Araucárias National Park in August 2021. After about one year living freely, our team was called by residents of the Park's surroundings to rescue him, since he couldn't fly. Unfortunately, he had fractured his clavicle. He was admitted at CETAS-SC, where he is receiving all the necessary care. If all goes well with his recovery, he will be able to fly again soon through the skies of western Santa Catarina!

This is an example of the importance of citizen science for monitoring animals released by our team.

Chalana Esperança keeps sailing...

The Chalana Esperança team accompanied the 15th Assembly of the Terena people, in the Village of Brejão, in Nioaque.

During the Assembly, we also made some recordings with indigenous leaders in order to take their testimony to the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), in 2022, an opportunity provided by Environmental Justice Foundation.

Educate and fascinate

This month, Aves de Noronha team carried out the third campaign of 2022. Cecília Licarião, Heideger Nascimento, Geisi Sobral e Juliana Kleinsorge, from Log Nature, were in the field banding birds and educating people. Our actions were focused on the local guides, with the Basic Birdwatching Course, and on the Elementary teachers at Escola Arquipélago. There was even a meeting with children at the school, where they received our coloring book!

IES in science

Did you know that Instituto Espaço Silvestre also make science? Through the IES Educa Program, in addition to the offered courses, scientific works are also produced and can be used as references by conservation and animal welfare researchers.

And the best part is: you can access all of this in our website!

And the Silvestres SC Program continues is full swing!

In August, the Silvestres SC team had a lot of work to do - which means that many animals received the opportunity to go back home! In the video above, we've put together just a few of the many releases carried out over the past month, which include a chalk-browed mockingbird (Mimus saturninus), a western cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis), a green-billed toucan (Ramphastos dicolorus) and a black spine-necked swamp turtle (Acanthochelys spixii). All of these animals were received, evaluated and treated in the CETAS-SC and, as soon as they were well, they could return to live free on their original places. Do you liked these happy endings?
