Our Kia Optima Navigation System is designed to fully integrate into your factory radio and finish. The difference between traditional aftermarket navigation and UNAVI Navigation Systems is that UNAVI retains OEM radio features and technology, including any infotainment and telematic features from the manufacturer. Our systems retain FM/AM Radio, HD Radio*, Satellite XM Radio*, AUX/MP3 playback*, Bluetooth*, Kia UVO*, OEM backup camera*, steering wheel controls, climate controls and much more (*if equipped).
Our In-Dash GPS Navigation System features iGO Primo NextGen software, with Canada & USA maps, 3D buildings & landmarks, searchable POIs and locations, and turn-by-turn directions, just to name a few. These maps for Kia Optima are offline, in other words, it is a dedicated, offline navigation system that does not rely on cellular data as information is obtained reliably from GPS satellites. UNAVI systems also offer multimedia features such as video playback via an external storage device.
UNAVI's core focus is OEM retention. It is dedicated to engineering first-class systems, designed to add a new user experience and overall, convenience and safety for the driver. Backed with above-average product warranty, the UNAVI systems are manufactured to the strict standards of the automotive industry, obtaining OEM-approved certifications from around the globe. Better off using your phone really. Unless the car has its own internet connection like with apple/android car play using the phones net, it won't have traffic info and just sends you the shortest way to the destination.
If a system can't connect to the internet, it won't be able to get live traffic or map data so if a road is closed or there's an accident on your route, it will still send you right through it. Given it needs an sd card for its maps, I'd assume this is the case. Check eBay for a nice vent mounted phone holder.
On the basis that your car has android auto/apple car play, I'd suggest using this which connects to your phone's internet. I find that it's better as it gives real time traffic information and much prettier graphics/information than KIA GPS.
I have tried to connect my phone using USB cable to the car but I didn't see anything happened, just Samsung DeX has pop up on my phone and I didn't pay attention that much. (Maybe I need to play a bit with the functions and will find something)
You would be better off getting apple carplay or Android auto installed than paying for the SD card. In-car navigation maps get old quickly, updating them is a hassle, and they don't have traffic info. Plus the UI is usually terrible, it is great to be able to use a proper keyboard on your phone or Siri to find a navigation target rather than battle through the in-car navigation system.
Rip out the old unit and put in a touchscreen unit from Aliexpress for $200-$300, effectively a full android tablet with better connectivity and screen.
Have had one in my sportage for 4 years now and its been great.
There should be two usb ports, one is for charging and the other one (might be in the middle compartment) has data access (if your model has the Android Auto / Apple Car Play). Once connected it would then trigger android auto. Having said this, I don't think 2016 Kia models has Apple Car Play / Android Auto, think they implemented it from the Kia Cerato 2017 onwards.
All UVO systems on modern Kia vehicles including the Kia Optima get your basic infotainment system features and then some. You can take advantage of an AM/FM radio, auxiliary inputs with support for a USB connection and MP3 playback.
Many Kia models include both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as a standard feature right from the start. This means you can access a large suite of apps on your infotainment system through your phone regardless of whether you have an Android or Apple device. You can even access navigation. The 2019 Kia Optima has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard.
All 2019 Optima models feature a large 8-inch infotainment screen with all the features listed above, but there are more features available. The base LX trim has an option for SiriusXM satellite radio. This feature comes standard on the S and EX trim.
The EX trim can be upgraded further with a voice command navigation system, HD Radio, and SiriusXM Traffic, which can alert you to traffic conditions and more. These features come standard on the top SX trim.
Though navigation is a good selling point, if you have a smartphone, you can access all of your phone navigation features on any 2019 Optima so long as your device is compatible with either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Kia Connect technology opens another level to your Kia by providing access to remote features and services that truly enhance your ownership experience like lock/unlock, climate control, charging, Find My Car, stolen vehicle recovery, and much, much more!
Remotely start your engine, adjust climate, and view detailed vehicle information all in the palm of your hand. When you pair your smartwatch to a mobile device with the Kia Access App, you'll be able to send remote commands from there as well.
About to head out? Heat or cool your car to the perfect temperature before you leave! Using the Kia Access app, set the temperature remotely so you won't have to endure a sweltering seat or icy interior again.
Get an alert if you forget Fido in the second or third row. The seats have sensors designed to detect movement after the doors have been locked. Through the Kia Access app, you can even get an alert on your smartphone!
Uh oh. Did you forget to lock the car? Even if you're miles away, you won't need to worry when you can lock and unlock from your smartphone. And, if you lock your keys in the car, you can handle it in seconds.
