To program the remotes, you will need to press and hold the square PRG/SET button on the power head until you see a blue light, then release the button. When you release a purple blinking, light comes on. Step away from the unit a few feet, and slowly and firmly press and release the button on your handheld remote that you wish to program 3-4 times. Patented technology that automatically finds the best line of communication between Genie products. This maximizes the range of radio frequency devices and improves the overall performance of products.

These transmitters work by matching the settings on the internal code setting switches with the same set of switches in the receiver on the garage ceiling. The receiver is located either behind the light lens of the Genie garage door opener motor head, or inside an external small rectangular box on the ceiling, which is connected to the motor head by a set of wires. Note: the frequency of the transmitter must be the same frequency as the receiver on the ceiling for it to work. Genie has been making the 390 MHz frequency exclusively for the last 15 years.

These garage door opener transmitters have 2 smaller switches to the right of the internal Code Setting Switches. The small right switch should be set according to how many Code Setting Switches in your receiver (either 9 or 12). The small left switch is for programming purposes. To program a button for one of your doors, follow the instructions below:

This new Genie Intellicode Radio Receiver connects differently than previous versions of Genie external receivers. The receiver is powered through the terminals marked power and common. A Genie garage door opener which has only 3 terminals on its motor head will use the terminals on the motor head marked 1 for common and 3 for power. If you have a Genie garage door opener with more than 3 terminals, an external 24Vac adaptor will need to be purchased to supply power to this receiver.

Please note, clearing the memory of your opener is an optional step. It will remove all remotes, cars, or keyless entries connected and require them to be reprogrammed, but may be a good safety measure if you have lost your garage door remote. Otherwise, skip the memory clearing step and just begin to program the remote.

If the remote doesn't program to your opener, try pressing the remote button 3-4 times. Make sure you are standing about 3 feet from the opener and complete all the above steps within the 30 second timeframe, otherwise restart the process with the program button.

Here at Genie of Fairview Door Co., our customers have relied on us to help install, set up and reprogram garage door opener systems since 1964! Before you call us, though, you may be able to self-diagnose and solve a hand-held remote programming issue on your own.

Gently press and release the radio receiver Learn Code button on the Genie of Fairview motor head in your garage. This small, black, usually unmarked button is often located behind the light cover on the motor head and is nearest the 8 inch floppy antenna wire protruding from the head. After pressing this button once, a red indicator light located next to the button will start blinking red for 30 seconds. **

These remotes work by matching the settings on the internal code switches with the radio receiver on the garage ceiling. Look for the floppy 8 inch floppy antenna wire for the location of the radio control receiver . The above diagram shows a GT912 set switch system. The GT90 series would only show the bottom 12 numbers. On the GT912 diagram the wide switch to the right is based on whether your radio receiver in the garage is a 9 switch or 12 switch. If a 9 switch move this wide switch up for 9 and only follow the top nine numbers to match the receiver switches. Note: these remotes will only work the Genie remotes with a frequency of 390.

"Through the years whenever I have worked with Genie of Fairview they have consistently been fairly priced, quickly available, and very detail oriented in their service. Truly a pleasure to have them working on our home!"

Older model Genie garage door openers use dip switches rather than a "smart" to program the opener and remote controls. Unlike their Intellicode system, which you can program with a press of a button, the remotes and the door opener dip switches must match in order for the remotes to work correctly. You will need Genie's GT912 remote control to program the old Genie door opener to the remote. You can purchase Genie remotes at Sears or through Genie authorized dealers.

Get the three digit frequency number off your Genie door opener. The frequency number will be stamped on the rear of the motor. Purchase a GT912 remote control that uses the same frequency number as your opener.

Place a stepladder under the rear of the Genie garage door opener motor head. Locate the dip switches on the back of the motor head. There will be a line of nine or 12 white dip switches on the upper right corner.

Slide the battery cover off the GT916 remote control. Press where the arrow is by the cover with your thumb to slide the cover off the remote control. Locate the mode switch on the right side of the remote control dip switches. Slide the mode switch to either 9 or 12 depending upon how many dip switches the Genie opener uses.

Slide each individual switch on the remote control to the exact position each switch is on the door opener with your finger. Place the battery cover back on the remote control and press the white button on the remote control. If the Genie door opener does not operate, one or more of the dip switches is not set correctly. Remove the battery cover and review the dip switches and correct the ones that are out of place.

I wanted to find out if the garadget will work with the Genie 1028 door opener. I already ordered that but wanted to get this question answered before I can even attempt connecting it once I receive that.
