3 Rescued in 2 Days in Acadia National Park
Rescue personnel in Acadia National Park have been kept busy this week, with three separate rescues-- one on Monday and then twin rescues on Tuesday, June 26.
On Monday, June 25, a 24-year-old male was rock climbing near the South Bubble trail and slid/fell about 50 feet. The National Park Service and Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue (MDI SAR) responded. They performed a high-angle rescue with a litter to evacuate the individual. The individual walked off the trail with rangers and denied an ambulance. He self-transported to the hospital.
On Tuesday, June 26, two hikers were injured within 15 minutes of each other. Around 12:30 p.m., a 71-year-old female fell and broke her leg on the South Bubble summit. The National Park Service, Friends of Acadia Summit Stewards, Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue (MDI SAR), and Bar Harbor Fire Department (BHFD) responded. A team performed a carry-out and the individual was transported to MDI Hospital via ambulance.
Then around 12:45 p.m., a 60-year-old male fell and sustained a knee injury on the Gorham Mountain Trail. The National Park Service, MDI SAR, and BHFD responded. A team performed a carry-out and the individual was transported to MDI Hospital via ambulance.
