Buffalo National River seeks public input on new disability access plan

by Kylon Williams

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Buffalo National River is drafting a plan to improve accessibility for visitors with disabilities, and are asking for any recommendations to make the park as inclusive as possible.

The National Park Service is drafting a self-evaluation and transition plan (SETP) identifies areas in the park that need improved access for visitors with disabilities.

The SETP will create a roadmap for future upgrades in the park as funding and compliance with federal laws, such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), allow.

“By better understanding the needs of today’s visitors, the park can work towards accessible solutions that accommodate the public,” said Superintendent Angela Boyers. “Our goal is to provide recreational opportunities that can be enjoyed by everyone.”

The National Park Service is looking for ideas from the community for their SETP, which has a draft that can be found on the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website throughout the planning process.

The plan can be reviewed and commented on between June 28 and July 31.

All comments can be made public at any time, although participants can request that comments and personal information be withheld from public review.
