Jarvis announced today the selection of Ray Todd to be the next director of the agency’s Denver Service Center (DSC). The DSC is responsible for the National Park Service’s large scale planning, design, and construction projects. As Director, Todd will supervise a staff of more than 250 specialists and oversee the largest contracting office in the National Park Service. The service center currently manages more than $1.5 billion in construction projects, $9 million in planning projects, and $25 million in transportation projects. “With his extensive professional credentials, Ray is highly qualified to oversee the National Park Service’s most crucial planning and construction projects,” Director Jarvis said. “As we look forward to the National Park Service centennial in 2016, I am confident that Ray will continue the tradition of leadership and management excellence at the Denver Service Center.” Todd has served as the Intermountain Region’s Associate Regional Director for Facilities and Lands since 2011. In that role he provided oversight for the region's $18 billion portfolio of assets, and was responsible for providing facility management, land acquisition, environmental management, and public health services to the region’s 85 parks. He also undertook a leadership role within the NPS facility management community to implement Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell’s youth initiative to encourage young people to play, learn, serve, and work in the great outdoors. Todd led NPS efforts to provide work opportunities for over 1,000 youth through facility projects in 2015. “It is a great privilege to be appointed to this position,” Todd said. “I am honored to return to where I started my NPS career and to work with such a dedicated, professional team. I look forward to working with parks, regions, and partners to address the challenges facing the National Park System, including addressing our deferred maintenance backlog.” In 2014 Todd served as a senior advisor to the National Park Foundation, where he worked on their centennial fundraising campaign to protect America’s special places, connect more people to their national parks, and inspire the next generation of park visitors, stewards, and supporters. Ray Todd began his NPS career in 1982 as an historical architect at the DSC. In 1985 he completed a three-year training course at the Williamsport Preservation Training Center (now the Historic Preservation Training Center) as an exhibit specialist in restoration. He also served as a construction manager, project manager, branch chief, and as the deputy director of DSC. Todd oversaw the DSC’s $700 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act program, and the $325 million Elwha River Restoration project at Olympic National Park, the nation's largest dam removal project, and the second largest ecological restoration project in the history of the National Park Service. Todd is a licensed architect, a Project Management Professional, and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. He earned a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Oregon and a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan.
