My friends also please include on the list Chris Andress.  He was the Chief, Ranger Activities Division in WASO.  Then he went to the SERO to be a Supt in a park there.  He also died on duty.  He was really a gentle giant.

On duty: I'd add my BLM friends Don Geary, Mark Hosket, Craig Galbraith, and Roger Spjut (USFS) killed 8/21/86 in a plane crash on Steens Mountain while doing WSA survey, also pilot Vern Haney who I'd flown with many times as our contract helicopter pilot. Particularly impacting to me perhaps, because Roger took my place on the flight as a "favor" so I could take a trip with my kids. There IS by the way the Public Lands Foundation Memorial Wall that recognizes those who dedicated to protecting Public Lands who have passed not necessarily in the "line of duty".
