Vietzke the new NER Deputy RD for Park Operations

Superintendent Vietzke recently developed and opened the new visitor
center at Ft. McHenry, and previously at Sagamore Hill competed a new
GMP that settled several long standing issues while opening a partner-
funded, modest but effective new exhibit on Theodore Roosevelt. Her
efforts in both parks were considered breakthroughs after previous
delay. I have heard that that Director Jarvis, soon after assuming
office, visited Ft. McHenry in his effort to encourage and spotlight
model urban youth program initiatives. This is another young DRD,
following Mike Reynolds who has been appointed RD for the Midwest
Region. She hold cultural resource degrees from Cornell and
University of Pennsylvania.
It is interesting to see the RD, below, bring the dual career issue
forward immediately, considering some of the complaints raised
elsewhere.

Dear Colleagues,
After interviewing several well-qualified candidates, I am pleased to
announce that I have selected Gay Vietzke as the new Deputy Regional
Director for Park Operations. Gay not only has an outstanding track
record as a successful superintendent at Fort McHenry NM and Historic
Shrine, Hampton NHS and Sagamore Hill NHS, she also has a strong
background in cultural resources that will help her lead the parks and
programs that fall under this new position. You can review the
attached news release for more details about Gay, who will assume her
duties on April 10, 2011.
As you know, Gay is married to Associate Regional Director for
Administration Dave Moore. I strongly support dual career couples in
the National Park Service, and also realize the issue of appearances
of any conflicts, so I have cleared this with the appropriate agency
officials.
I am confident you will support Gay as she assumes her new position,
and will welcome her back to Philadelphia.

correction: The new DRD's degrees are from the University of
Connecticut, and from the University of Pennsylvania.
