I don’t have a subscription to the SF Chronicle, so I decided to ask perplexity.ai to summarize Memorial Day condition Yosemite for me. This link does well to describe conditions thus far:

I am pretty surprised that is the story going out.  Actually, Perplexity missed pretty significant issues on Saturday. We stayed home in Foresta, but El Portal friends watched the line of cars on Hwy 140/ Arch Rock entrance crawl along as far back as the El Portal Market, resulting in about 1.5 hour waits in line at least (video and discussion also on FB).   Reports from Hwy 120 said the wait was all the way down to Rush Creek Lodge (over a mile) by 6:30 am, and the manager of Ansel Adams  Gallery told me  “It's pandemonium out there.  It’s quiet at the store because nobody can find parking to find us”.  Meadow parking in the valley was rampant from reports from others.  Perhaps Perplexity may have been reporting on Glacier Point or Tuolumne, both of which just opened tho with no commercial services yet?   That report was not accurate for the Valley, it seems.    Sigh….

Sorry,  I just reread that, and it wasn’t as far off as I thought, but I still don’t think it adequately describes the Valley scene with gridlock and no parking by 8-9:00 in the morning and the impacts and chaos it creates for staff and visitors.  Guess I am a little edgy about the whole thing!

Thank you Laurel for sharing your first-hand impressions about current Memorial Day traffic and overcrowding conditions for Yosemite, especially for Arch Rock entrance and Yosemite Valley.
