Reading Divine Love made me more attentive to the art surrounding the Christmas story, while I have been using art as a reflective tool in the parish Bible study that I lead. As we have studied the women of the Gospels on Wednesday mornings this fall, one of our spiritual disciplines has been looking at art of those stories through the practice of visio divina.

Tanner (1859-1937) was an African American artist. The son of an African Methodist Episcopal bishop, he made his home in Paris as an adult and took two extended trips to the Holy Land, which informed his many religious paintings.

In his depiction of the Annunciation, Gabriel is a slim column of light rather than an ornate angel with wings; the placement of the shelf behind Gabriel forms the shape of the cross and foreshadows how the course of events unfolding here will ultimately lead to the cross. The rumples in the bedclothes, rug, and clothes are an exercise of artistic realism that add to the sense of how Gabriel has burst upon a very ordinary scene that is not carefully curated and prepared.

James Tissot (1836-1902) was a French artist who, after having a religious vision in a church in Paris in the middle of his career, began work on an extensive series of 365 paintings depicting stories from the life of Christ. He traveled to the Holy Land multiple times in order to see firsthand the places where these events occurred.

When Mariah Carey made a fashion statement with Hello Kitty in the late 1990s, I was a small kid, but I was obsessed with the character. During my childhood, I wanted everything with Hello Kitty and my parents indulged me. I had pencils, pens and personal care products from Hello Kitty. As I grew older, I started looking at other things, Hello Kitty was always special. I never lost my love for the character and still looked for ways to incorporate it in my life. So, when I shifted to Singapore and needed spectacles, Hello Kitty spectacles were my first and only choice.

Hello Kitty was created in 1974 by Sanrio, a Japanese company. The character first appeared on a coin purse designed for prepubescent and teen girls. However, in 1990s, when Hello Kitty character was exported to the US, it found its true calling. The character was marketed to children and adults, who remember it from their childhood. This laid the foundation for Hello Kitty products and today, adults like me are crazy about character and true fans would go out of their way to find products that bring this character back into their lives.

When I was informed by the ophthalmologist that I needed prescription glasses, I knew that I had to make a fashion statement. After searching high and low the perfect spectacle frames, I decided I wanted Hello Kitty frames for my prescription glasses. I wanted to recapture the happiness of my childhood and also demonstrate my fashion flair with the spectacles. However, after searching high and low, I was completely despondent as no spectacle store in Singapore had the capability for customized spectacles. They did not have the right technology to customize the lenses to fit into the frame. It was disappointing, but I did not give up my search. I am glad I persevered. Finally I found a store that could allow me to make a fashion statement with my Hello Kitty customized spectacles.

I cannot praise Visio Optical, a trendy spectacle store in Singapore, enough. Not only was I impressed with their wide choice of spectacles and sunglasses, but also their expertise in customizing sunglass lenses to suit my prescription. I could not contain my excitement. I knew I had found the spectacle store that would be able to help me get my Hello Kitty spectacles.

VisioOptical has cutting-edge technology to cleanly and precisely cut lenses so thatthey can fit into any frame design without a hassle. As a diehard Hello Kittyfan, that was exactly what I needed. Visio Optical had a whole lot of HelloKitty frames with the iconic bow attached to the side of the frame. I fell inlove with the frames and bought six in different colors. Yes, I am that crazyabout Hello Kitty! I wanted a color for every outfit and the six colored framesblended well with my wardrobe.

While speaking to the friendly staff at Visio Optical, I figured out that they also encouraged customers to design their own spectacles. Immediately, I had an epiphany. As a design your own spectacles service, Visio Optical encouraged customers to draw a shape on paper and they had the technology and expertise to reproduce the design. I decided to draw Hello Kitty character to see if Visio Optical could fulfil my ultimate dream. To my amazement, the lady behind the counter smiled and said it would be done.

Afterleaving behind my prescription, I was asked to return the following day. With alot of anticipation and trepidation I stepped into Visio Optical the next day.I thought the store was pulling a fast one on me. After all, no other opticallens store in Singapore had this capability. But, I have to say that my skepticismwas laid to rest.

The store had created the perfect outline of Hello Kitty lenses and attached the nosepads, hinges and cable temple to the lenses to create a functional and iconic Hello Kitty customized spectacles. I whooped with joy. It was hard to believe it! I finally had a customized Hello Kitty eyeglasses, something I always wanted but could have with by 6/6 vision. Now, in mid life, my dream had come true. Besides the Hello Kitty frames with customized lenses, I had Hello Kitty spectacles. What more could I ask for?

I havealways been a big Hello Kitty fan, but to be able to wear Hello Kittyspectacles was unimaginable. However, Visio Optical in Singapore made my dreamcome true. I cannot thank the store enough. I also thought that the whole design your own spectacles (sunglasses) concept was magnificent. It gave hardcore fans like an opportunity to sportspectacles that otherwise would not have been possible.

VisioOptical has the capability to design any shape. Customers just have to draw theshape or bring in a picture and they will never leave the store disappointed. From personal experience, I can say that if you are looking for customizedspectacles or customized lenses, Visio Optical should be your go-to opticalstore in Singapore. The technology, expertise and professionalism are parexcellence.

Today, thanks to Visio Optical, I wear my customized Hello Kitty lenses with panache, and when I want to be quirky yet trendy, I don the Hello Kitty frames with their cute bows. My spectacles are a hit with my friends. Many strangers on the road give me a second look and they smile; some have even stopped and asked me where I got my spectacles. I proudly proclaim: Visio Optical. So, if you are like me and want customized spectacles (or sunglasses), do not think twice about visiting Visio Optical. You will be able to get customized lenses to suit any frame, or you can go frameless and enjoy standing out in a crowd. I know I did with my fascinating Hello Kitty spectacles!
