Application process
Students can be nominated by teachers, parents/guardians, school administrators, or community members. The deadline is the 25th of each month. Students are eligible to be nominated and chosen September through April. Students who are homeschooled are also eligible to apply and will be chosen in May. All nominations will be shared in our local pages of the North Dakota Living magazine.
The student will have the opportunity to choose a project or intuitive within their school, for which the funds will be utilized. KEM Electric will work with the school to ensure smooth transition and completion of the project.

Using Touchstones Volume I, students identify and examine their own assumptions, presuppositions, and opinions and compare them with those of their peers, and with authors such as Aristotle, Hobbes, Machiavelli, Kafka, Mencius, and others. Touchstones lessons invite careful reading and mindful discussion on issues of truth, justice, equality, friendship, and freedom.
South Dakota's Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and Dakota News Now have joined together to recognize the achievements of high school seniors throughout the region since 2002. Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week recipients are highly-motivated high school seniors who excel in the classroom and community. This program was founded on the four pillars of Touchstone Energy which are integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to community.
School principals and faculty from across the state nominate students for the Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week program. Dakota News Now selects a student each week to be featured during one of its newscasts. The student who is selected to be the Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week that week also receives $250 from their local Touchstone Energy Cooperative. In addition to being honored as a Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, the scholar is then eligible for the $1,000 Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Year award, or two $500 awards, which are presented in April at the Scholar of the Week banquet. These are really important questions, and the process of answering those led us to develop a touchstone, which is a statement of shared values that is used to create an environment in which all of our students can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.
Middle school teacher Mr. Ben Dirksen and principal Tyler Amidon started the touchstone process by listening to the Denver Christian community. Students, parents, and staff were asked what characteristics they value in Denver Christian students (academically, socially, and spiritually) and classrooms.
We believe that as individuals and as a community we are always growing, learning, and emerging. Our touchstone allows us to continue to intentionally build and develop the climate and culture of our middle school in tangible ways:
Over the coming weeks and months, we will be developing norms with the students, asking questions about what it means to live out our core values collectively and individually in and beyond the classroom, and also spending time reflecting on how well we are living them out.
It is our deep hope that students flourish here at Denver Christian and that this is a place where they feel comfortable to take risks, that they feel supported and support others, and that they come to understand their identity as beloved sons and daughters of the King and live it out as agents of restoration.
Interested in becoming part of the Denver Christian community? Our students are back in class, safely learning, and we have limited availability in classrooms preK-12. Learn more, and contact us to schedule a tour!

Like its namesake, Touchstone Magazine selects the "gold" in literary work by graduate and undergraduate students. Touchstone is Kansas State University's student-edited literary arts magazine, published annually each Spring by the College of Arts and Sciences with assistance from the KSU Creative Writing Faculty, the KSU Fine Arts Council, and the KSU English Department.
In 1975 Touchstone, Kansas State University's literary magazine, was established to serve as a standard of excellence, presenting the best creative writing from our undergraduates. In 1998, competition was opened to graduate students in creative writing programs nationwide. Then in 2011, the magazine expanded to online publication. We encourage you to check back in the fall for information on Touchstone's 2012 edition!
The Editor-in-Chief for Touchstone 2011 is Lindsey Givens. She is a second year master's student in children's literature and she received her bachelor's in creative writing from the University of Arkansas in 2009.Read more...
In previous Boston Hospitality Review issues, we have identified several methods that may be applied so students are able to cope with, embrace, and even leverage change in the hospitality industry. Included in this has been a number of strategies and tactics, which may include such tested practices as engaging creativity, adopting new habits, reframing theories, and challenging accepted paradigms. Along with these, the practice of self-reflection becomes a powerful tool for adapting to the realities of our constantly changing industry.
