Umeed - 'Urban Management of Environment and Employment Development' is an exceptional initiative 

by Kanpur Pragati Manch under leadership of Rakesh Suri and Rajiv Batia.

Under this initiative, KPM plans to train the youth of the city for participating proactively in effective 

administration of the city by implementing the principles of Model Nagar Raj Bill.  The basic premise 

of the Model Nagar Raj Bill is that local citizens are in the best position to know and decide on local priorities, 

and administer the issues and matters that are most important to them. The Bill creates a strong incentive 

and institutional framework for citizen participation in the their local day to day affairs. Local problem solving 

must be left to local citizens.
