Earth Hour 2011 has reached record participation, with 131 countries and territories registered to switch off. Many countries will be officially joining in for the first time, including: Lebanon, Jamaica, Iran, Uganda, Swaziland, Tajikistan, Chad, Azerbaijan, Gibraltar, Palestine, Suriname, Uzbekistan, Trinidad & Tobago and Lesotho.

Switching off the lights is just the beginning of a year-long commitment to the planet. You've already shared thousands of inspiring stories of how you are going beyond the hour but if you haven't added yours yet then do it now! And remember to share your act through your social networks or by email to help us inspire more actions for the planet.

To celebrate this year's unprecedented participation Earth Hour has called a Worldwide Meetup Day. So if you are getting together with fellow supporters to share your Earth Hour moment then please start a community and share your plans with us. Your event will feature on our Meetup Map.

Check out the new Lights Off Twitter application and join us by turning your profile picture dark for Earth Hour. The twibbon adds the new 60+ logo and during Earth Hour the application turns off the light in your profile picture. It's a great way to help us spread the Earth Hour message.

Join by going to Twibbon and selecting your time zone. Then click on the Twitter button.
