Hi,

I really don't want to paint the devil on the wall here, but knowing
what Oracle just did with Google, nothing seems impossible ;-/

There's a bug tracing tool for Solaris or similar OS at Oracle Labs
(Australia) which they inherited from Sun named Parfait:
http://labs.oracle.com/projects/parfait/

Eclipse has seen Mylar change its name to Mylyn, so I don't think it
would be too tragic.
Noticing, Parfait (yours) is part of a larger performance initiative
driven by SGI (http://www.sgi.com/) who does in fact compete with Sun/
Oracle in the HW sector, I would ask them what they think of it. And
maybe have their lawyers also provide input.

Cheers,
Werner

I noticed, Paul you're also from Australia, so not to far away from
this Oracle Lab...

Thanks for the heads-up. Unfortunately we only found out about Sun's
Parfait project after our project was named and launched.

Hopefully it's not a big drama -- as far as I can tell Project Parfait
hasn't been released, and is currently basically a research project. If
it proves problematic later I'm sure we can work something out.

I've done a very quick trademark search in .au and .us trademark
databases, no-one seems to have trademarked parfait in a
technology-related field (plenty of uses for cosmetics and underwear
though!) so at least that's something.

Just a quick clarification here -- the parfait project does integrate
with, and is useful for users of, SGI's PCP project; however, the
project has no connection, formal or informal, with SGI itself.

This is, I guess, both a bad thing (no access to the lawyers of which
you speak), and a good thing (perhaps less likely that Sun/Oracle would
give a damn about us :) )

Cheers, and thanks again,

Paul
