5.2 Language Arts – Students will focus on comprehension and be able
to show evidence of understanding a variety of literary and
informational texts. Students will work towards identifying and
analyzing author’s use of dialogue and description. They will also
develop an understanding of the connection between text and self.
5.2 Math – Our math unit is a Geometric Exploration of area,
circumference, and congruence of circles and various polygons.
Students will be using formulas for finding the area of triangles,
parallelograms, and other polygons. Circles will also be explored as
students will discover the relationship between the diameter and
circumference, and will determine the area of circles.
6.2 Language Arts – Students will be reading a novel, The Westing Game
and will focus on key literary elements. They will identify the main
theme, mood, conflict and characters. In addition students will
discuss author’s use of dialogue and description and connections
between text and self to gain further understanding of the genre.
6.2 Math – Our math unit is Three-Dimensional Measurement. Students
will identify common geometric figures, understand the difference
between perimeter and area, and explore the components of a circle.
Two and three-dimensional shapes will be discussed.
Science – In this unit, Wholes as Sum of Parts, students will learn
that matter is composed of many different parts and that the whole is
equal to the sum of those parts. Students will investigate how common
items have parts that are too small to be seen without magnification.
In addition, students will identify parts of an atom.
Social Studies – This unit will focus on why and how was the United
