Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s that time of year again!!! The Iowa Horse Fair will run on March
30, 31, April 1 for 2012. Kristen Rude and I will be coordinating the
demo for our group this year. As you all may have heard, Farrah Green
will not be performing at the Iowa Horse Fair. The good news is that
Carol Lowery, PNH 2 star Instructor will be participating with our
group and will have a booth set up in the Jacobson Center!

Our theme for our demo will be Peace, Love, & Parelli, so it should be
a lot of fun. We are also going to enter the stall decorating contest
in the Horse Barn, which has the opportunity to win a cash prize. We
have been at the fair for a few years now, so it is time to represent!
If you have any groovy 70’s, hippy inspired decorations that we can
use, please let me know. Any song suggestions that compliment this
theme would be great as well! For those who would like to participate
this year, the stall fee is as follows:

Stall:
$30
Tack Stall (shared by 3)/Equipment for Obstacles Stall: $12.50
Decorations Contribution: $5.00
Total: $47.50/per person

The stall fee payment is due by February 10. Payment may be remitted
to me at: 3810 SE 5th Street, Des Moines, IA 50315. Bedding is not
included, so you may bring your own or purchase it at the Barn Office.

For the demo, who is interested in participating? Since this is a
performance, all participants must be playing in Level 3. To go along
with the Peace, Love, & Parelli theme, we ask that all participants
wear a tie-dye shirt. I will have face paint available if anyone would
like to use it as well. :-) We have the theme set, but the location
and time for the demo is still up in the air since space and time is
limited (there are a lot of new performance additions this year).
Circumstances may limit how many can participate at a time. It could
be either one 30 minute demo, or two 15 minute demos. If it is a 30
minute demo, we may break it into 2 demos so there is more space, and
more people can participate. Exact details about the demo are on hold
until we hear more from the IHC. Unfortunately, we will not be holding
the Parelli Tournaments this year, for various reasons.

So if you would like to participate, please let me know so I can put
you on the list! Also, if you have any requests for who you’d like to
be stalled by or share a tack stall with, please let me know.

Thanks everyone! This is going to be a FUN year! :-)

Great Brandie!

Also, VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! If you can not participate in the demo, but would like to support the group, please let me know. We will need help with a variety of things such as; setting up obstacles for the demo, sweeping the aisles, assisting Carol with her booth. Many hands make for light work, so any help will be greatly appreciated!! :)

I have you all down! If you could send the stall payments, it would be much appreciated. :) The reason I'm asking for payment by the 10th is that I have to send a check for everyone's stalls by the 15th.

I'd be willing to volunteer my services. Just let me know what you
want me to do. I'd love to help Carol in the booth, but setting up,
sweeping anything is fine. Probably only on the weekend though.

Hi everyone!

The due date is coming up in a few days for me to send in the stall
form and payment for our group, and I'd like to give them as accurate
of a count as possible. Right now, the participants who will be
stalling with our group are:

1. Me :)
2. Kristen Rude
3. Diane Nitzel
4. Adency Start
5. Jillian Whitaker
6. Carol Lowery

Is there anyone else who would like to participate with us? It is
going to be a very fun and relaxed theme this year, and it is a great
opportunity to highlight your relationship with your horse. :)

We are still waiting to find out where the demo is going to be, but
info about the group demo will be coming soon. I hope everyone is
having a great winter!

Hi Parelli Group!

Our theme this year is Peace, Love, Parelli so it's focusing on the
natural and free aspects of our horsemanship set to 70's music. We
will have on-line, liberty and freestyle. We really like the idea of
bareback, bridleless or both for the riding to go along with this
"free-spirit" theme. There will be obstacles set up in the arena to
play with. Since all the participants will be playing in L3 or 4, we
feel that everyone is savvy enough to watch out for each other while
they're playing. Since it is a performance, we are encouraging those
who play or ride together to come up with things they can play with in
pairs and/or groups. A few things that we have come up with is
circling game, beep beep game, matador game, and also doing some of
the patterns together. We might be setting up some cones in the middle
of the arena so that who ever would like can do the cloverleaf
pattern. Doing things together will give our demo more of a wow
factor.

Not exactly sure how the demos are going to go logistically since I'm
still waiting to hear back from Linda. We could have two 15 minute
demos or one 30 minute in the Pavilion or round pen in the Jacobsen
Center. We will be sending out an email asking participants to rank
what savvy they feel most comfortable in for the demo. That's where
we're at right now.

Please feel free to email any ideas of comments you have!

Have a great day,
Kristen

Hi Kristen,
I was with Linda this weekend and she is working on the schedule. It sounds like we will be in the RP for 30 minutes. Not sure which day. They are not even letting all of the breed demos in the pavilion this year, just those with lots of horses. Hope this helps with planning. The RP will be much larger- filling the entire space and the footing will be right this time;)

whichever savvy/savvies they would like. We will let everyone know

Someone mentioned song suggestions.  Considering the theme you will need to throw in  at least a little of Age of Aquarius.  Sitar music?  Maybe a little Jimmy Hendrix.  There are parts of "Do I Dig That Girl" ( think that's the title) that sounds a bit psychodelic.

This year’s demo theme as many of you know is the fun and groovy,
Peace, Love, Parelli!! We will have an hour long demo on Saturday at 9
am in the round pen that is 45x80 in size. Due to the space
limitations, we are splitting the group in two. Each group will have
25 minutes to perform.

1. 5 minutes- obstacles setup
2. 25 minutes- Group 1 Online/Liberty
3. 25 minutes- Group 2 Freestyle/Finesse. Although we have finesse
listed, we would still like to keep the demo along the lines of being
free-flowing and fun.
4. 5 minutes- teardown of obstacles

The set up will be a similar to the previous years with various
obstacles in the arena. We will be playing music that goes along with
our hippie theme. We feel that since everyone is playing in L3 or
above, that we all should be cognizant of where the other participants
are at while playing, so we do not need to be assigned to certain
obstacles or areas.

We request that participants wear tie dye t-shirts and dress their
horses up in whatever fun things you can come up with that go along
with the 60’s hippie peace-living theme. (Feathers in the mane and
horse paints would be fun!)

Please also let us know ASAP what savvy you would like to perform in.
Since our group is split between groundwork and riding it gives
participants the opportunity to be in both groups.

So far we have:

Diane: Liberty
Dustin: Liberty
Brandie: Liberty/Freestyle
Kristen: Freestyle
Leah: Freestyle
Adency: TBD
Carol: TBD
Jenna: TBD

So far we need a pedestal, poles, a few more barrels and cones. If you
can bring any of the obstacles, please let us know!

Everyone will need to have a health certificate for their horse that
is valid within 30 days of the fair. Please print off the liability
release form that will be uploaded to this site, and fill it out. When
you arrive at the fairgrounds you will need to take the filled out
liability form and health certificate to the Barn Office BEFORE you
unload your horse.

Shavings will be available to purchase from the Barn Office for $6.00/
bag, or you may bring your own.

The most important part of the demo is TO HAVE FUN! We can’t wait to
see y’all there!
