When configuring a new mobile phone we would like to use "samsung swart switch" (we mainly use samsung smartphones and it gives the option at setup). However, when we try this it says: Use of samsung smart switch limited by security policy.
Although our users have basically no mobile restrictions and can download virtually every app from the google play store with no restrictions, it turns out Samsung Smart Switch still needs explicit permission as an managed app. So if you experience this problem go to:
mobile > apps > android > add the samsung smart switch app > edit > Check the mark for use managed configuration > press the + button and allow smart switch run aswell. After you save Smart Switch will be able to do it's thing.
Has anyone received a software update to their phone using Smart Switch on a Windows computer with the A14 5G connected? Everytime that I have tried it the software says that I have the latest version. Does the A14 support this function?
If you feel that it's a problem because of the link, why not just disconnect the link while trying for your update. My guess is the results will be the same. If the update was failing because of the link, you would probably get some kind of error message. the fact that you are being told that you have the latest version, just means that any newer version has not yet been rolled out to you.
I have had the phone since August and had read that if OTA updates weren't showing up that an alternative was trying Smart Switch. I had used apps with other brands of phones and usually, that function was available over the years using the apps provided by the Brand such as LG, Motorola, Blackberry and Etc. but had not tried Samsung's app before until this phone purchase. I had not gotten an update using the software with my phone or 2022 Galaxy S6 Lite Tablet. I thought that maybe the function wasn't available for lower price point devices. Thanks for the reply. No worries.
You have an A14 which is a lower end phone, so will probably be one of the last to roll out. My guess is that they do the flagships first (S series) and then the higher end if the A series. I have an A54 and I got the update. I did it manually, but through the phone settings, not smart switch. I don't imagine it's any different haw you do it manually as opposed to waiting for the automatic notification. Like I said, you would get an error message rather that your software is up to date.
To clarify; I have received OTA of UI 6.0 for both devices. I was asking for future reference. Prior to receiving those OTA updates, I had tried Smart Switch to see if updates would show up that way. I have some job sites that have poor cellular reception so I thought that Smart Switch would be an alternative to OTA. My last phone was an S8 and I never saw a need to use Smart Switch. I always received updates without issues. I was also working for a different company at the time. I hated to move away from that phone but I no longer received updates or security patches. Yes, I did check the actual software version of my software. I figured that it would be better to ask about whether my phone was able to use the software update function of that software as opposed to spending a lot of trial and error with it. Again, thanks for the response. I am good. Thanks.
Although we choose from a similar range of models, the reality is that every phone is unique to us as individuals. We pour ourselves into them with apps that simplify our lives, as well as our own memories in the form of photos, videos, music and more.
To make these upgrades swift and worry-free, Samsung created Smart Switch. This easy-to-use service allows you to transfer important content from any phone or OS to your new Galaxy S8, S8+ or other Galaxy device.* In other words, Smart Switch ensures all your cherished digital memories carry over to your new phone, so you can focus on making new ones.
The amount of data we depend on our devices to manage throughout the day can make the idea of upgrading to a new device seem daunting. From that impressive meal you made to a beautiful flower in spring, every memory is a vital part of who you are, and the risk of losing a single one may be enough to put pause in your decision.
Not with Smart Switch. The mobile and PC app allows you to instantly make your new Galaxy smartphone more convenient and familiar by seamlessly transferring your photos, videos, contacts, music and more.
The software option allows backup using a personal computer. The intuitive interface makes restoring content on a new Galaxy phone swift and easy, and provides a simple means for you to conduct firmware updates and back up your new device.
I need to allow users to use the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile application to transfer their data to their new Samsung phone.
I thought just adding the app in the android app in Intune was enough.
When the user installed the app and tried to use it, he got the error "Security policy restricts the use of Smart Switch."
It didn't work. The user still gets an error "Security policy restricts the use of Smart Switch."
I saw the application could not have enough access to old resource phones such as sms, contacts and etc.
Even after manually assigning all permission to Samsung Smart switch mobile, it doesn't work and shows the same error.
Next, I added App configuration policies. I attached the properties of the policy that I created and granted all permission to Samsung Smart switch mobile. The result was the same. It doesn't work.
It would be great if you could help me in this regard. I checked Compliance policies for android, device restrictions for android and security setting. I couldn't find anything to block Samsung Smart switch mobile.

Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets are some of the most used Android devices. Yet, despite the popularity of Galaxy products, many owners do not realize Samsung developed an application for creating and restoring backups or upgrading mobile devices. Secure Data Recovery, the expert in RAID, SSD, and hard drive recovery, offers a step-by-step guide and tutorial for restoring data to a Galaxy smartphone or tablet with Samsung Smart Switch.
Those with a Samsung Smart Switch backup can restore files to a Galaxy mobile device. These provided backups enable our customers to recover from data loss on a failed Samsung device. However, people can also use Samsung Smart Switch to transfer data to a new Galaxy smartphone or tablet.
Users can install the Samsung Smart Switch application on their computer and Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, or BlackBerry devices. The software can back up calls and contacts, messages, images, videos, audio, and various application data, such as Calendar or Notes. However, Samsung Smart Switch can only restore data to a device in the Galaxy product line.
Creating a backup with Samsung Smart Switch on your computer and restoring a Galaxy smartphone or tablet depends on the operating system. Following these instructions can help users migrate their files to a new Samsung mobile device.
When that happens, you can trust the engineers at Secure Data Recovery to retrieve your lost files. Since 2007, we have encountered every failure scenario on all types of storage devices and resolved over 100,000 cases. In that time, we have maintained a 96% success rate and returned billions of files to satisfied customers. So, whether you need Android data recovery or Samsung data recovery, we have the experience and expertise to extract your files.
I have tried both A11 and A21 phones from Boost Mobile, and neither is compatible with the new Smartthings app. Samsung tech support gave me wrong information on the A11 which I bought after returning the A21. Very frustrating. Does anyone have first hand experience with the Samsung A10e, LG K51 or LG Stylo 6?
I spent HOURS on the phone w Samsung, and FINALLY received the answer (from Samsung)! It DOES NOT work with the A21, They are aware of this and NO there are no plans to resolve it. Did they offer assistance as I recently had upgraded to the A21. NO THEY DID NOT. So we are just stuck with it not working.
I bought a samsung MIM-H04 ( kit wifi ) to manage my samsung air conditioners.
Play store tells me that smartthinks is not available for my cell phone.
Nowhere do they report which devices or versions of Android it works with.
I need the app for my cell phone with Android 7,
where can I download it? And if not, how do I use the wifi kit that I bought from you?
With the requirement to factory reset mobile devices to enroll into Android enterprise (Fully managed), it is becoming increasingly more apparent that a solution to backup data on pre-factory reset devices and then restore said data onto the post-factory reset devices is needed. At the moment it appears that all restore functionality is disabled in the android fully managed solution.
I've set up Samsung Smart Switch for being able to do this on "Fully Managed" devices. The trick for me was to create an app configuration policy for Samsung Smart Switch that allows this. But it seems to be able to backup everything. So please consult your security and compliance policies to see if it violates against this.
When you run the configuration of devices in fully manage, did you keep Samsung oem apps (calendar, gallery...) please ? Because we don't (the default in Intune) and I can't find Samsung Cloud. I can add a Samsung account on accounts but I don't have Samsung cloud in menu.
@Klaus stergren Nielsen I'm testing this out and I find when restoring with Smart Switch, Home Screen and Settings are unable to be restored (see image below). Is this the same behavior in your experience? The same backup in my example, when restoring to the device in unmanaged state, can restore both Home Screen and Settings.
