Hey friends: Does anyone have any SS curriculum for toddlers – 18 mos. to 3 years - that they can recommend?

Subject: RE: Curriculum for Toddlers

Hi Leslie: You have hit on it. There really is very little “curriculum” for toddlers. Bible Quest used to be the best but it went out of print. “Wee Believe” by us Presbyterians had a toddler curriculum but is not finding a big enough market so it will not be printed anymore. They will still print the Preschool (3-5) curriculum and I have samples in the Resource Center.  I love the “Splash” Pages but they are geared for the church/family connection but a curriculum for Sunday School.

I am not really familiar with Heartshapers. They are from Standard Pub which is Baptist. Hands-on Bible (Abingdon- Methodist) also has a toddler curriculum but again I am not up to speed it them either.

I will continue to look and send a question out to my resource network. I will let you know if there are any better choices.

Be blessed,

~Nancy

Nancy –

I was told to contact you to find out the best curriculum for our Toddler Sunday School class at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. We currently don’t have a curriculum as the ones we’ve had in the past have not been age appropriate. We have ages that range from 1.5 years to 3 years and it’s been terribly difficult to find something that works for all ages. I found a Heartshapers curriculum at Cokesbury that seems to be good and I also found the Wee Believe curriculum on the Presbytery site. However the information on the Wee Believe program is very vague and doesn’t tell me what I need to buy and what exactly the ages are. The general description says it’s for toddlers (18 – 36 months) and preschoolers (3 – 5 years) but then when I scroll down to purchase there’s only a book for preschoolers and a couple of kits/bags but I don’t know what they are for or what they include.

Do you know anything about the Heartshapers curriculum? Do you prefer one over the other for that age group? If I were to purchase the Wee Believe what exactly do I need to buy?

Thanks!

Leslie

Here are a couple of good possibilities:

1.  GOD LOVES ME - The Bible in 52 Storybooks (Telling the Story to Twos and Threes)   this is a set of 52 bible story books and you can also get the Program (Teacher's) guide and the take home cards if you like.  The little bible story books have a sweet little lesson plan at the back of each storybook.  This is published by our CRC friends  -- FAITH ALIVE CHRISTIAN RESOURCES.

2.  WALK WITH ME for Preschoolers is a kit of forty something lessons (everything is in the box - lesson plans, rhymes, reproducibles, music CD's etc.)  We love it!  It is also published by FAITH ALIVE CHRISTIAN RESOURCES.

3.  WEE CHILDREN at Church from Congregational Ministries Publishing is another neat kit with stories, activities, etc.

4.  I haven't checked on the age groups (don't know the youngest age level) but you might look into GODLY PLAY as a possibility as well.

take care,
Jenny

Hey,
here are a couple of more possibilities to add to my last list:

1)  LITTLE LAMBS -  published by FAITH ALIVE CHRISTIAN RESOURCES (Christian Reformed Church)

2)  THE STORY - Preschool Curriculum (31 lessons)  and THE STORY FOR LITTLE ONES - Discover the Bible in Pictures published by zondervan
these materials are more of a fun resource to use rather than what we would consider a curriculum per se.

Spark has new curriculum for ages 2 & 3- one that is lectionary based and another that is  centered around OT & NT stories in a 2 year cycle.  The Spark Story Bible is very good and can be used with both of these.   Dorothy Dornblaser,  Resource Center of St. Augustine FL.

I am sure that many of you are in Grand Rapids right now at the APCE Conference but I wanted to get the word out about this wonderful conference coming up in Kansas City at the end of the month (February 23-25). I am looking forward to participating and networking with others in attendance and leadership. It's a joint PCUSA-Disciples event called "Children Welcome! Conference: From Stumbling Blocks to Building Blocks of Faith." The registration fee is a reasonable $150 (after Jan 31) and includes an evening banquet and lunches.

Please check it out and consider registering soon.

In Christ,

Wee Children at Church replaced the Wee Believe Toddlers and Twos. It is a permanent kit with 52 story cards and activities as well as the caregivers and leaders guide. It is designed for 18 to 36 year olds but includes information about care for younger infants. C

Is it true Wee Believe is going out of print?  People are just finding out about it!
