Hi All!

I have been involved in planning a workshop for APCE. One aspect of the workshop will discussion of spiritual gifts. We are looking for a free, condensed spiritual gifts assessment. Due to our time constraints we can't offer a full inventory. Any ideas?

Being the RC Director I am, I offered to create a list of related resources and bibliography to hand out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Sidney

For your bibliography:

Rediscovering Our Spiritual Gifts: Building Up the Body of Christ Through the Gifts of the Spirit, by Charles Bryant.  Upper Room Books, 1998.   ISBN 9780835806336: $14.00

Also available separately:
Your Spiritual Gifts Inventory – ISBN
9780835808194 - This is the 32-page inventory which appears at the end of Bryant’s book.  It’s available through Amazon, clearly labeled as a 10-pack for $22.00, but several people commented that they only received 1 copy before contacting Amazon for a correction on the order fulfillment.  My congregation used this some years ago during a family retreat.

1. Two-page form from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  Bottom of form includes this statement:

Used with permission from Easum, Bandy, & Associates, Inc. (www.easumbandy.com).  Inventory can be found in workbook: Discovering Our Place in God’s World and in Development of Church Officers in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church by Chris Joiner

    http://ministrycouncil.cumberland.org/assets/1612/spiritual_gifts_inventory.doc

2.  Brown, Patricia D. SpiritGifts: one spirit, many gifts. Nashville, TN: Abingdon Press, c1996.
        Participant's Workbook:  ISBN 9780687008582
        Leader's Resources:       ISBN 9780687008575
Summary:  This material is designed as a group experience of discovery and growth. It presents a biblical foundation for understanding spiritual gifts and their importance to the church as the Body of Christ, and seeks to help the participant discover God's will and direction for one's life, using one's own spiritual gifts. A spiritual gifts survey, a personal inventory, worksheets, charts, and other resources are included.

3. The United Methodist Church has a section of their website which discusses spiritual gifts and includes both a bibliography
and an online assessment of gifts:

Here is a simple one that our recent Interim Pastor put together. He did not site sources.

This form from your Interim Pastor is very similar to the one from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which acknowledged that it was used with permission from Easum, Bandy & Associates.  In a direct comparison I found that 7 of 31 questions had been reworded, with one having been completely rewritten.  Although there are some slight wording differences in the explanations, the greatest difference is that the Cumberland Presbyterian/Easum, Bandy list of explanations includes scriptural references and the one from your Interim Minister does not.

Thanks.  Since it is so obviously borrowed from the Cumberland resource, it should not be shared further.

Thanks Susan,

Would I be able to contact Cumberland and Easum for permission to use it if we want to include it in a bibliography?

Blessings,

If permission is given, I don't see why not.

Friends,

A pastor in my presbytery is asking about books that can help a 4 year old understand why we cannot see God. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

The site I recommend for children’s books is http://storypath.upsem.edu/  This is searchable by theme, scripture, age/grade.  There are discussion questions for the books.  And it’s free!
