SRF to Host Inter-Faith Thanksgiving Service
2011-11-10
The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine will host this year's
annual Pacific Palisades Ministerial Association's Inter-Faith
Thanksgiving Service at 7 p.m. on November 21 in the main temple
sanctuary, 17080 Sunset Blvd.
The public is invited to join an evening of sharing prayer, music
and fellowship, commencing with the congregational hymn 'Now Thank We
All Our God.'
There will be readings from the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.
Brother Satyananda from the Self-Realization Fellowship will conduct a
guided meditation.
Rev. John Nagle of the Community United Methodist Church will offer
the homily.
A choir comprised of members from local church choirs and led by
Victor Long will perform 'For the Beauty of the Earth,' an anthem
about Thanksgiving written by John Rutter.
A second selection by the choir will be 'Peace, Shalom, Salaam
Aleikam,' a song of peace and unity that calls the Abrahamic religions
to come together. Written by Barry Fasman and Rick Joswick, it has
been performed at the Hollywood Bowl for the Easter Sunrise Service.
Fasman, a member of the SRF choir, is a music producer with numerous
gold albums to his name.
The congregation will be led in singing a Self-Realization chant,
'When Thy Song Flows Through Me,' written by SRF founder Paramahansa
Yogananda. It is a reminder that we are all just playing a role on
God's stage.
The evening's offering will be donated to the Ocean Park Community
Center (OPCC).
The service will close with a prayer for unity.
Afterwards, hot cider, chai tea, coffee, cookies and pastries will
be served in the SRF special events room.
Ample parking will be available in the upper and lower lots. A
shuttle will be available from the lower lot.
Participating congregations in the Pacific Palisades Ministerial
Association include Corpus Christi Church, Kehillat Israel Synagogue,
Palisades Lutheran Church, Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church, Community
United Methodist Church, Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church and the
Self-Realization Fellowship.
