to paragliding
hello,
My father and I are really interested in starting to paraglide. I have
been doing a lot of research and found a lot of good information.
however I am a little behind on my meteorolgy and catching thermals. I
don't have any equipment yet and it will be a while before I will get
training but I want to know as much as possible before I go so I can
begin flying as quickly as possible.

if ya'll can give me any advice from your vast collective experiances
like "you should always go left in a thermal because left is a better
direction than right" I made that up but you get the idea.

any thing you guys have learned outside of a book that is what I am
looking for.

Also any one in Florida willing to fly with a newb once I get my gear
drop me a line =)

Thanks,
Ira

Hi Ira

Well , your question is a special one ...
Personnaly I learned flying in a school , and books are a
complementary learning .Some people learn by themselves ,it's possible
, but the experience of teachers from school is something else , you
are able by this way misse some mistakes you probably will do alone !.
Did you try driving your car without learning it before ...in France you
are obliged learning in schoool ( obligatory for the car , not for
paragliding , strange !)

On the other side , beginning with experienced teachers is a good way
, and the learning is progressive , and safe .

A good sentence in french is " un bon pilote est un pilote qui vit
vieux" ==> a good pilote leave old , means that in this sport , if you
want to fly well and old , do the right things in the right way .( well
it's not exactly the sentence but the sense is quiet good :)

So , learn as much as you can in books , but nothing is better that
the practice , and the best beginning to practice is with experienced
teachers .

You leave in Florida ?Which part , I ever went in Miami , Orlando and
the Keys few years ago ... and I love much , specialy Key West ...

Amicalement

thanks for the concern for my safety. I had no intentions of flying
without instruction. I simply want to be able to fly on my own as
quicly as possible and to do that I need to know everthing that they
will tell me so they can jump right to the actual skills.

I am father North. I have family in Miami and I visit there regulary.
The keys are most definately the coolest.
