We are going to Barberton this weekend, having
planned it for a long time already. As usual, I made a few calls some 3-4 weeks
ago to ensure that everything is OK, and that we are expected.
The Barberton Golf Club called me back last
week and informed me that they are unhappy that many pilots are not paying the
fees when landing (R20 each to the Chief Caddy, Ronnie) and that they
want us to pay in advance. They also wanted more money.
Today I was informed that we have to pay R50 per
pilot per day IN ADVANCE. They have not yet decided how to deal with the
family members.
The Slowvelders were informed last week, and Mias
de Klerk will be talking to the Golf Club Committee. He is hoping to reduce the
fees but if not possible at this short notice period, we are going to have to
pay that for now.
I was not informed how they plan to collect the
fees, so find Ronnie (the Chief Caddy) at the Golf Club house and pay him.
Or see if you cannot pay at the bar. Get a receipt (from Ronnie or the bar) as
proof that you have paid.
The Club is entitled to some fees. We use their
facilities, it is a safe place to park, our families can enjoy the day there, we
have ready food and drinks there, and it is convenient to meet there before
going up. It is also a very safe landing area for the students. We use the Club
House facilities even when we do not fly. There are many pros to using
the Golf Course. PAY YOUR FEES FOR THE GOLF CLUB!
I am not against paying the Club, it is just a very
steep increase. The Club is probably suffering from the recession and is
attempting to get enough income to maintain the course and retain their
personnel. But we are also suffering from the recession. I can see that our
groups are smaller and that people go on away weekends fewer times during the
year.
If we all pay our share, it will be easier to get
the fees reduced.
Attached here are the rules for Barberton in
general.
Wilma and Martin at Sappi have retired, and are no
longer available to call. It is expected that someone else will be appointed in
the near future.
Just another plea - please, pilots, comply with
site rules in general. If you have to pay site fees, do so. If the landowner
requires prior notification from the pilots, do so. If you cannot get hold of
him up front - do NOT go fly.
Small transgressions can lose sites for us
all. We can all help to retain our sites by following the
rules.
Best regards
