Dear friends

Maybe yet it early to write about it and it would be correct to begin this theme in January - February but however if will allow: I plan a will come to the coming season 2012 from middle of May for early July. I want to visit the districts of Chitral and Hunza (as did it in a season 2010), and also there are interesting plans on flights in Astor area. If someone plans to fly in high mountains Pakistan in a season 2012, declare about the intentions and plans feel free. :) in the format of expedition it will be much simpler to realize our ideas and desires, provide safety  :)  of flights, transport support, and similarly to decide domestic questions.

I terribly became bored on Pakistan, his sky, mountains and his brotherly people.

All,

I have just joined the group as I have the firm intention to visit
Pakistan this summer.

I am a French paraglider pilot who has lived in Scotland for several
years and have over the past few years met, heard the stories and
viewed the footage of pilots who have visited this beautiful land
(Brendan being one) and also regularly fly with people who have plans
to visit the Karakoram this summer or later. All that combined had me
wishing hard that I could be one too. I thought that 2012 would not be
the year due to lack of clarity in term of my work plan ahead. However
there is now more clarity for me and after countless nagging from
Julian Robinson I just have to go!

I am working on a rig in the North-Sea and have managed to convince my
back to backs to work for me (well I will have to repay the time too).
I now have a 7 weeks window of opportunity in June/July but because it
is a bit late in the day I have plenty to organise to make it be a
reality. From all the info I have read on the different blogs and on
the groups I do not see too many big issues for me apart from the
visa. My potential departure date from the UK is 11 weeks away (which
should be more than enough time) but because of my offshore work and
other commitments I will only have 4 weeks of these when I can drive
and retrieve my passport in Glasgow. I have already contacted PAFF to
have the letter of invitation organised and I am very grateful of the
early reply. I know that we can get stressed when we see the time
passing but I fully understand that you also all have your daily
working lives to tend to. I look forward to meeting some of the fellow
paraglider pilots in Pakistan to be able to say thank you to you all.

As information to all, I intend to be travelling form the UK to
Islamabad on the 8th of June and departing Islamabad for my return to
the UK on the 20th of June. Once in Pakistan I think I will make my
way to Gilgit and Karimabad relatively quickly. I intend to travel
back from the North 4 or 5 days before I am due to take the plane in
Islamabad. If all goes well, it will give me a bit of time to
socialise with the pilots of Islamabad and if the monsoon delays
things I should still be able to make my plane in time.

I am sure that some of you will look me up on Google to see what I
have achieved in the past. I can answer straight away. Not very much.
I am a 50h/year pilot who has been flying for a few years. I made it
to Bir in 2010 and had planned to go over the back but the constantly
relatively low base or really inverted days did not really provide the
opportunity. My ambitions for this trip are as a result relatively
low. I plan to enjoy the view on foot and in flight but do not really
want to push the boundaries too far. 5 weeks in the area should help
watch the weather, listen to the body and the mind and fly safe.

A line for Brad if you read the messages: I have seen in the past
years that you were offering passing pilots to use the helicopter bond
in your name with Askari Aviation (providing we are suitably insured)
in exchange of a reasonable fee to you. Will you be offering that
again this year or are you limiting it to the group of pilots flying
with you and John this summer?

Wishing you luck in your flying endeavours and hoping to meet you all
soon.

Greetings, Peter

I too plan to be and fly in Pakistan in this season. I had good experience of flights in Chitral and Hunza  in 2010.
I plan to arrive to Islamabad on May, 8-10th, precisely yet I do not know. I will arrive to Islamabad from Kathmandu but while I couldn't buy the ticket at the adequate price, I will be probably engaged in it already in Nepal. Concerning plans of flights: I think better really to orient on a place having studied weather forecasts. Variants actually 2 - Chitral and Hunza. Chitral to start a season it is more preferable - as has more big band variants of flights and it is more safe. But there should be a weather. So I flied to the same time every other day in Hunza, and Rob and Gray sat in Chitral. In other words we will be defined on a place.

I don't speak in English absolutely, on it not wnd to the curve text.

Yours faithfully,
  Dmitry

Dear Siraj,
We remember and we love you - our brothers on wings!
I hope, if it will be necessary for god, we will meet and we will do some flying together with local pilots.

Including, I hope in this season the good command will gather.

With warm greetings,
Dmitry

Hi, Siraj!

Today received the visa. Despite the term of stay declared in the
questionnaire, the visa gave for 30 days. I have a question which
demands ASAP answer, whether visa extension in Chitral and Gilgita is
possible now? On the Internet there is information that to foreigners
any more don't prolong the visa.

Who has possibility to specify this information please write about it!
Whether it is possible to receive now extension for 30-60 days, how
many it borrows time, how many costs if at all it is possible!

Yours faithfully,
Dmitry

Hello All,
The difficulty obtaining a tourist visa for Pakistan continues to be a major hurdle for many pilots. I am so sorry to hear that Dmitry was only issued 1 month. In the past I've been able to extend in Gilgit but that was 2007, that year I tried from Chitral but the officer directed me to Gilgit. Over and over it's a situation of someone in an office not wanting to take a decision that may make trouble for them later. Hopefully Siraj will have positive news from Chitral. Maybe someone knows the situation in Gilgit for extension?

I know 2 pilots who have canceled their trips this year due to difficulty getting visa.

Any suggestions for pilots preparing their applications?

Mine are-

1) In your itinerary don't mention paragliding. Mention you are going to visit Hunza only.

2) Get a sponsorship letter from a tour operator.

For anyone who knows the system I welcome any input that will make this process easier,
Regards,
Brad
