Dear friends,
This has been posted already on facebook but for those who haven't heard a pilot from Dir, Muhammadyar has passed away. He sustained injuries from a paragliding crash and was transported to Lahore hospital during the last week. I only met him briefly at the Shandur festival last year, like all pakistani's he was instantly like able but because of language issue I was not able to communicate much or get to know him better. The loss to his family and friends is terrible and it's an upsetting time.

As I understand the crash was something like a large collapse followed by spiral which he could not exit. It sounds like he would have had time and presence to deploy a reserve but was not flying with one. For me it highlights the need for better training and equipment. Of course I am speculating a lot as I was not there and did not hear first hand his story.

It does make me want to do more to create better access to safe equipment for pilots in Pakistan as well as create a system where training is standardized and readily available. I know Jabbar at PAFF has done a lot to try and come up with a system for teaching. And as I understand Jabbar will be back sometime this summer. I know many foreign pilots including myself have spent time trying to pass on information to keep pilots safe. Like any country with a small flying community this can be a slow process. Over the summer I will be working with a school in California to get my instructor certificate so that in future trips I can put on clinics and give USHPA licenses. Not that this piece of paper is important but being part of a structured established teaching system could be a step in preventing potential accidents in the future.

Sorry for this sad news.

Hi
Its really sad. What I heard from Ahsan haider (Lahore ) as he talk to the person who brought him to lahore and was with him at the time of accident. He told he was on the ground and was just inflating and a dust devil came and lifted him and then collapsed. He had backbone injury, pelvis and few other bones. In Lahore i appriciate Ahsan in arranging blood for him. I also met that guy once. Its unfortunate that he bought the glider last year which i flew more than 5 years ( dudak Vox blue colored) sajjad shah broke the news if the death. He said after surgery and one week of hospitalisation his death cause was cardiac failure.
May Allah Rest his Soul in Peace.

I agree with u Brad. Lack of proper training and knowledge about terrain, weather, observing the site + condition and then descision making in tough condition is necessary. The most important what I feel and observed. Due to not proper training and knowledge when ppl reach at flying site , they mentally do not accept or they never keep one point in their minds " abort take off " or " there is always next time" becauseu hav also seen ppl here while teaching exept jabbar bhatti that they hold student and just throw out of
Take off site. While giving training they
do not give confidence to student to decide and handle the wing.

Anyway Brad its a long long discussion.  We should Pray that May God bless us and save all pilots from every injury.
