I have successfully installed the agent on an XP machine.

I have attempted to install the software on a Vista machine. The
windows says that everything has completed. When I go the Program
File folder and attempt to run the Templar.exe file, it still does not
run. I check the task manager to confirm that the process is not
active. I have even changed the compatibility mode to XP SP2 and Run
As Administrator. Still no luck.

The majority of my systems are XP, but the few that are Vista would
still need to be accessible for this to be of use to me. I am eager
to use but reluctant without a fix.

Thanks in advance,
- Tiger

Hey Tiger,
We have it running on a few Vista boxes, so it should run in theory.
Could you do me a favor and check a) did the files actually get
installed (normally in C:\Program Files\Paragent\Templar) and b) is
there a "Paragent Agent" service registered.

Cheers,
Tim R.

Tim,

There is no service registered, but the files did install properly.
Next step?

Eagerly Awaiting,

It is probably the case that the user under which the installer was
run didn't have permission to install a service.

What happens if you switch to the templar directory and run

Templar.exe -i

from the command-line?

It's funny, I have it working on one vista box and not on another. The
Paragent Agent is not running, the service is not registered, but
there is a Program Files/Paragent/Templar

I installed with an admin account.

Navigated to the Program Files/Paragent/Templar/Templar.exe and ran as
an admin. A command promt like window opened and hung there for a
while and still no service registered.

From the command prompt, cd to the Templar folder, executed
Templar.exe -i and here's what it said:

Connected to ROOT\CIMV2 WMI namespace
path:C:\Promram Files\Paragent\Templar\Templar.exe
unable to open service manager

Well, I'm not sure what to recommend at this point - that appears to
be a permission issue, and it is hard to know how the box is set up.
Is one a member of an Active Directory domain?

Cheers,
Tim R.

Neither are in my case. Hope it's not rude to hijack a thread...
should I start a new one or are we cool since we're on topic?

No problem. Just trying to think of what might be going on. Are either
of those Vista machines running the service pack? The other thing you
might try is right click on C:\Program Files\Paragent\Templar
\Templar.exe, select properties, and the "Compatibility" tab, and the
select to run it in Windows XP (Service Pack 2) compatibility mode.
Then, try running Templar.exe -i again from the command-line and see
if that installs it. (I've attached a screenshot I found online)

You know it's funny... I haven't given this much thought since I
posted, but it was in the back of my mind to come back and take
another look.

Both machines are working now. The service has registered on both
machines. I don't recall working with this any further, but magically
it's running! I don't recall which machine didn't run it, just that
one of two wasn't running it.

Wish I could be of more help, but thanks Tim!
