The Captain had decided to sleep on it, but it had kept him up pretty much
most of the night. His wife was not happy that, although battling with
insomnia because of the stress Vin didn't take the time to be useful and do
something to clean up or wash anything but just brooded in his own thoughts.

That was the difficulty adjusting to this 'more rugged' lifestyle, cleaning
up was not as automated.

On the way to his office he called a couple of people, namely the Chief of
Security and the Chief of Operations, asking them to meet him there in
fifteen minutes. On arrival though, he found Graves still asleep in the
makeshift bed he had set up in his office for him. Kicking him friendly
"Graves, wake up... I need you back here in fifteen minutes. Showered shaved
and dressed in this." he had thrown Graves a uniform. "Remember, whatever
trouble you are in, we are going to keep you by my side, you understand?"

Alexander released a groan and rolled over so he could grasp his aching
back. He considered introducing some colourful language into the
conversation in order to express his displeasure that it seemed to be taking
place in what would otherwise be prime sleeping time; But not wishing to
insult his new CO in the first minute of his first day, he reconsidered.
Slowly but surely, Alexander squinted up at Vin groggily, before staring
down at the uniform and sneering as
if Vin had just thrown him the carcass of his dead cat, Artemis.

"Blue was never my colour." He groaned again, before pulling himself to his
feet and rubbing his bristled cheek, "And yeah, I got the game plan. I have
your back, you have mine et cetera." He was unintentionally blunt in his
semi-conscious state, and paused for a moment to give Vin a quick nod in the
hopes of showing his appreciation for the helping hand the Captain had
offered him. He broke the brief silence by heading to the door, "15 minutes.
Got it. Never thought I'd miss replicated coffee" Alex added as he left,
muttering something about the imagined sacrifices he had made for Starfleet
and the injustice of having to wear a uniform again.

The Captain called out after him, "No replicator here to make coffee, but
check the staff kitchen... there may be boiled water and some powdered stuff
that could almost be coffee." It felt natural to have his friend back and
whatever trouble Graves was in, Vin owed it to the man to see if he could
save Grave's life, even if it was only some form of redemption instead of
the literal.

Less than five minutes after Graves became absent, the two gentlemen, Lox
and Cho'Lu arrived,by Vin's summons. "Gentlemen, we have a lot to do in a
little time. This situation is ugly and I will need to address all
Starfleet staff, to do this I want an Assembly within our perimeter."

"Sir?" Yim'Bar asked without finishing fully his thought. "Is this
completely necessary considering our recent 'Assembly' in front of the
hospital?" Yim'Bar feared the worse. "Is Commander Blake going to take
part as well?" Yim'Bar feared having them both together in an assembly
almost as much as having the assembly. It was concern but could be
alleviated with the proper plan.

"The perimeter of our compound is, mechanically, secure. The security
systems in place are one of the few things I didn't need to update, though I
did wipe the database and install our own passwords, just in case someone
tampered with the old one." Justin said.

"Sorry, the XO has left us onto bigger and better things, with this...
Cho'Lu I have deemed that you should step-up, but at this stage I am not
going to let you go from your Chief of Security responsibilities for the
time being you will be dual hatted." Vin stated as a matter of fact. "In
time you will be able to pass these duties on, but I need your serious
appraisal of any subordinate that you wish to put forward for this position
and detailed with specific examples of capability."

Did Yim'Bar just get promoted to Executive Officer? He was stricken for a
moment, "Aye sir." He stated "I will begin the assessment process and do my
best for the Federation and for you Sir."

"As for the assembly, it will not be with civilians and it will be in our
compound. I need this forum to be able to address everyone, and give due
respects to those who actually earned it." The demi-cardassian wasn't upset
with Yim'Bar's mention of the hospital, but he needed his staff to know that
despite what happened, gatherings of Starfleet personnel for Starfleet
business was not going to stop. They, when on duty, will be proud of the
uniform they wear.

"And Justin, as you well know obviously Caitlin will be travelling with
Toby, I need you to actually try and catch Caitlin before she leaves and get
her assessment. Detailed, just as before. While you are doing that, I want
you to help organise this assembly." The Captain knew that this wasn't fully
in the job description of the Chief of Operations, but being short staffed,
it was required.

"Understood Captain." Was the only reply Justin had.

"We will be re-organising and restructuring what we have here, and we will
be doing it more concisely. I will be talking to the staff on
colonist/Starfleet relations and measures that we have to take in order to
get onside." It was then that Graves had finally returned.

With a brisk pace through the door, Alexander found he now had company. It
had been over a year since he wore a Starfleet uniform and for the first
time since he had arrived on Paradise, he was clean shaven and impeccably
neat - the perfect image of an officer, and not at all a corrupt, mutinous
and insolent former politician.

He noted the newcomers presence silently, before coming to a halt nearby
Vin.

Taking the opportunity Vin addressed the two officers and introducing the
third "Gentlemen, as part of what has been happening I have realised that we
need the full time appointment of a liaison officer, and Alexander Graves
here will be that person."

"Mr. Graves it is a pleasure to meet you. Welcome to the team." Yim'Bar
said. "Let us know if there is anything we can do to assist you getting
settled in. But wasn't the Executive officer handling that detail sir, not
that I mind the help."

"Thank you. And please, Mr. Graves is my father...," he shook Yim'Bar's
hand, before adding sternly, "...who wasn't a Fellow of the Federation
College of Surgeons with 20 years experience at the knife under his belt.
We'll leave it at Doctor or Commander in future, I think."

"Commander." Justin nodded to Graves.

It was a surprise, but Vin went on to explain his reasoning. "Graves has a
no nonsense, very human approach, and one thing that I have learnt is that
we need a more human face. Editor Clum pretty much made that much evident
when he interviewed me. I trust Graves with my life, I have on more than
one occasion and will continue to do so."

"I am certainly for anything that will help settle the security nightmare we
find ourselves in right now, so I for one am willing to trust your judgment
on this one sir." Yim'Bar replied to the Captain's revelations.

"I'm pleased to hear your openness to new ideas Commander Cho'lu, there'll
certainly be plenty of them to come." He looked briefly back to Vin, before
returning his gaze towards Yim'Bar, "Captain Dharmajiva has bought me up to
speed on the particular concerns this colony faces. I have witnessed many of
them firsthand. It is a surreal experience to have lived at the brunt of
Starfleet's heavy-handedness. And as such I would like to discuss my...
'findings' with you in the near future if you have a spare moment, with the
Captain's permission of course."

"Permission granted." Turning to the all the officers Vin made the next
statement very clear "Gentlemen, we together are the Command Team, yes we
will have others in Department Head roles or members of Senior Staff, but
they have their own specialties to deal with. We on the other hand need to
be all 'over' everything and know exactly what is happening, when it is
happening and why it is happening. Is this clear?"
