Lia Argo just did manage to find her way to the security office just before her appointed time to be there. She had gotten a little side tracked along the way but it hadn't cost her the time thankfully. Dressed in her fresh uniform she walked in the door of the office with her orders in hand looking for the head of security, Lieutenant Commander Cho'Lu as she took in the office with her eyes.
Yim'Bar had been spending time filing reports on the current liaison efforts between he and the colonials. It was coming together slowly and the dream sequences were not helping matters. A solution was necessary, soon. Yim'Bar looked up at the newly minted Ensign. He smiled it had been some time since he had seen a newly commissioned officer. Her uniform was impeccable, her stature perfect, good traits but those things could be mimicked. "Ensign, you are onboard a Starship loaded with prisoners, you have a minimal crew of five officers and twenty crewmen. There are seven hundred Prisoners of War on-board. The main power and auxiliary power malfunction simultaneously. Your last orders were to secure the POWs to a holding facility which is now out of reach of the ship. There is an M-Class planet within range
of the escape pods, your commanding officer is dead, you are in charge. What is your next action?"
Lia didn't miss a beat as she listened intently to the question, "I would continue with my last orders Sir. I would have one of the officers send out a message of our location and a brief message as to what happened and start getting the POW's ready for the escape pods so they can't escape when they reach the M-Class planet. There I would wait until a ship arrived to finish transporting the POW's to their destination as well as keep track of everyone in the crew giving orders as fit to the other officers to see that we keep the POW's contained."
"The M-Class planet you land on is a sub-warp society, how does that change your mission objectives, if at all?" Yim'Bar loved new cadets their minds were still so...textbook... This one was doing quite well though and already a position within the infrastructure of the team was making itself known.
Lia shifted slightly looking directly at Yim'Bar, "That all depends Sir. If our arrival in the escape pods were noticed then I would have no choice but to interact with the people of the planet but would keep that interaction to the barest minimum possible since we are not to disrupt their society being a sub-warp society. In the off chance our arrival did not capture their notice then I would keep everyone contained away from that society with hopes of not coming in contact with them until a ship arrived to take us off the M-Class planet."
Yim'Bar liked what he saw in this officer, it gave him hope to know the Fleet was still able to turn out fine officers. "Very well ensign, please take a seat. Pending further action from the hierarchy, I am assigning you to Alpha Team as Assistant Team Leader. It is my official position and I need an officer to work hand in hand with the team so that I can function more efficiently as I oversee the entire department." Yim'Bar sat in one of the chairs in front of the desk he usually sat behind. "How aware of the situation here on Paradise IV are you ensign, tell me what you discovered in your research on the flight in." Yim'Bar knew she had begun to study the unclassified material about the planet, any good officer would.
Lia took a seat keeping her smile in check and not showing with her hands in her lap, "Thank you Sir." She looked relaxed in her pose sitting in the chair and nodded her head to Yim'Bar, "I have taken the time to read what I could so far on the way here as you may have guessed Sir. I know it is an ice planet being terraformed. It is a mining colony that has been left on its own during the war with the Xeleucians and now Star Fleet is trying to bring it back up to date and hopefully make it prosperous once more. I know it needs a lot of work and am willing to help in any way that I can to see things change for the better here."
"Ice is the least of the problems around here ensign. Societal change is what is required." Yim'Bar stifled a yawn, he was feeling the urge to go back into the state of mind that came along with his alternate self. He needn't worry Doctor Blake's device was performing beyond her original hopes. "The people here are fearful of the Federation, specifically you and me." Yim'Bar said. "Our primary responsibility is to heal the faction that has developed between the Colonials and the Starfleet personnel. Bet you did think you were going into the Diplomatic service on your first mission did you?"
Lia smiled just a fraction at Yim'Bar, "Sir I might not have realized the extent of damage done completely by reading it but in our position we are Diplomats between the people we are with. One time or another brute strength does not always solve a conflict where words can have a better chance of it. We may be here to protect but also to help others as needed on or off duty. I have no problem getting my hands dirty if it will help repair the distrust between us and the Colonials." and notes to herself how tired Yim'Bar seems to be and thinks this has been a strain on him so far and is willing to help take some of that strain off him.
"I certainly do not doubt your enthusiasm; I was an ensign not that long ago." Yim'Bar hoped he did not sound too condescending, he was tired and edgy. "Ensign as the Alpha Team Assistant I am going to need you to train with Chief Ormes and his team, our team." He corrected. "The chief is a combat veteran and together he and I have tasked the team with training to a level of efficiency uncommon in Starfleet Security Forces. If you are familiar with the history of our department we are implementing many of the close quarters drills and special tactics used by the MACOS of the past. This planet's indigenous technological inadequacies are almost forcing us to start using black powder weapons. It is increasing the challenge and inefficiency of the cooperative efforts of both departments which is the main and
practically only concern I have right now. If you will train with the chief and oversee the team it will be a great help to me. Please ask any questions you might have." He said as he stood and moved towards the back side of his desk. "You want a beverage? I have water or cream soda."
Lia nodded as he spoke making mental notes to herself as her eyes followed him behind his desk, "Is there any particular sector I should be watching more than the others for trouble Sir? Do we have anyone I should take special note of at this particular time?" and she shook her head a bit, "Thank you Sir for the offer but am fine." She could tell he was tired and hoped that her being here might relieve some of that for him.
Yim'Bar took a drink from his bottled Cream Soda after ripping the top off on the underside of his desk. He sat down behind the desk and leaned forward over the top, relaxed. "There is no sector that we need particular interest on. We currently have six Security officers working hand in hand with Marshals in their duty assignments, two per shift and one officer assigned to the command center per shift. I am the officer in the command center during their administrative shift 06:00 to 15:00. We are tasked to observe only."
Yim'Bar continued with the briefing, "Our officers are armed with type one phasers, the little ones." He pulled his out of a concealed flap he had programmed into the uniform dispensary. "Get yourself one of these and keep it with you everywhere you go. For personal protection I am carrying this in my boot as well." He showed her a long heavy duty 'survival' type bladed weapon. "Get with the chief and he will fit you for an upgrade to a ballistic resistant fabric we are using for our duty uniforms, it will help against physical attacks and projectile weapons." He smiled, "And it will help keep you warm."
Yim'Bar hoped the female would not freeze to death even inside it was cold here for humans. "There is a ton of gear and special equipment to get checked out on, plenty of time for that, readiness is the key. I deploy Alpha Team on all warrants and fugitive extractions, quietly for backup and immediate response no matter the time of day. We all deploy together, always. As far as persons of interest are concerned," He paused again and thought about assigning the Ensign to investigate quietly the officer in charge of the Marshals but chose not too at this time..."There is no one in particular at this time. Keep an eye on groups of colonials who seem to be following or stalking Starfleet personnel, especially non-humans."
Yim'Bar realized he had been lecturing. "Sorry ensign I get wordy sometimes. Please continue with your specific inquiries, I need to you to feel absolutely confident in your assignment, and ready to take on the universe at least our little corner of our little univers.
