[Commander Tobias Blake's Office, Starfleet Compound]
Petty Officer Ming Tao reported as he had been ordered to the XO's office. Lieutenant Commander Cho'Lu had given him a special assignment. One that would take all of his discipline and training and one that was completely up to the XO and his wife the CMO. That was a lot of non-Security brass but the old man needed Sing's services. He had trained all morning with the bags and was calm as he had ever been. he entered with the confidence of his time in service and rank not to mention the whole team pulling for him. He made his presence known, "I am Petty Officer Tao Ming, I have been ordered to report to the Executive Officer and the Chief Medical Officer, I am under the impression that they are located here, can you show me to them, please?"
The ensign looked up, “I believe he is in his office and expecting you, I will notify the doctor of your arrival so she can come over.” He turned to the comm and pressed it, “Commander Blake’s office to Doctor Blake, the gentleman the Commander wants you to meet is here.”
Toby stepped out of his office, “Over here Petty Officer.” He stepped back so the man could enter.
"Thank you for having me sir." Mao stated very formally. He was representing the entire department and was not going to be the guy who threw it all to the wind, things were to dicey without help. "Sir, Commander Cho'Lu requested that I report to you. Shall I just relax until your..." oops, settle down Sing he thought to himself. "Until the Doctor arrives?" Sing seemed poised to go from zero to 100 in in a nano second, his alertness was like a guard dog of sorts but calm.
Cait made her way to Toby’s office, nodding in a distracted manner at his aide, who opened the door to the office. The doctor looked rather….flustered.
Sing tightened up immediately, his boss Lieutenant Commander Cho'Lu was right behind the Doctor and he looked as if he had been wrestling with a Targ. "Sir?"
"All is well Sing... Chief Tao. Have you concluded your business with the Commander?" Yim'Bar asked.
"No sir. I just arrived." Tao said.
Glancing at his wife Toby noted the fluster, “Cait this is Petty Officer Ming Tao, Commander Cho’Lu sent him over to serve as body guard to Rose, assuming we approve of course, he’d serve as her Au Pair.”
“After the morning I’ve just had? I am more than happy to have someone body guard our treasure. I owe Commander Cho’Lu my life.” Cait took a deep breath, letting the tension out of her body as she exhaled.
"No more than I you." Yim'Bar said. "I can make this report later Commander Blake if you would like to conduct your business with Chief Tao."
Toby looked from one to the other to the next then looked at Yim’Bar, “If it was a report of an attempt on the doctor I think I’d like to hear it now, so that Chief Tao can hear just what he’s signing up for.”
Yim'Bar did not want to scare the XO or cause further incident. "Sir, Doctor Blake was assisting the colonist with clinical services in sector five. I had the standard security personnel located one block over to the east and to the west. Things went well for some time and then an altercation ensued. We subdued one woman with a phaser and we reported here sir." Yim'Bar said. "Chief Tao has been fully briefed on the mission specifications and he is uniquely qualified for the assignment. I trust him with my life." Yim'Bar concluded.
Lips compressing and eyes going as cold as the ice outside the dome despite the mixed shades of blue that now made them up, scared wasn’t what the XO was becoming, angry would fit better and he muttered under his breath in a near growl, “Those fools can’t they see that she and the rest of her team was only trying to help them? Of course not. Why are we surrounded by idiots?” He shook his head and looked up at Yim’Bar, “Thank you for the honesty.” He then looked at the Chief, “Chief, are you sure you’re prepared to protect a young child who is beyond charming and is very much the sparkle in her father’s eye?”
Chief Tao straightened himself before speaking. "Sir I can protect your daughter and can do it with charm and a good song or two. That is not the question on your mind, you need to know if I can be trusted and frankly, while you are making the decisions primarily two others need to have a voice. Namely, the good doctor here and that little princess you keep hidden away from the chaos we find ourselves assigned too. I can do the work sir. Will the whole family accept me into your routine and frankly into your future?" Tao had a confident air about him and meant what he said. "This will not work if I am not accepted as an Au Pair. My role will look far different than what you see me portray now. This is a deep cover assignment at the highest level the Chief and I take this
very seriously."
“If it keeps my daughter safe, I’m all for it.” Cait wouldn’t admit how much the incident at the clinic rattled her, more for the sake of her staff and patients, than herself though. If Rose was hurt, well hell hath no fury like a pissed off mother on the hunt.
“I have yet to find anyone that my daughter did not like and if you play with her and take her to her day care classes I’m sure you’ll be fast friends. Though she will try to get you to take her to see me or see her mother. She can be quite head strong, she gets that from her mother.” He grinned. “If she’ll accept you, then I will. Considering all that’s happened and even taking into account Cho’lu’s unwillingness to question the loyalty of some of those here under his command, I trust that he would have made doubly sure to pick someone entirely trustworthy.”
Yim'Bar's ears pricked at that statement. "Sir the security department is currently undergoing a complete internal audit of personnel, as you suggested. So far everyone is who we think and they say they are. I started with the people closest to me including Ensign Argo. Chief Tao has been confirmed." Yim'Bar said as a matter of the report. He still trusted his people but there were a lot of them he did not know and new ones arrived everyday. Quite frankly, his department very well could be the source of the disturbances but he was still not ready to disbelieve Alpha Team Members, at least not the original ones.
"Sir," Chief Tao asked "are there any further questions you have of my individual skill sets or qualifications to complete the security half of this mission?"
With a shake of his head Toby indicated that there wasn't, “I’ve known Yim'Bar long enough to trust his choice of personnel to guard my family. The only thing left is Rose accepting you.”
"I am will need to change into the gear for the job, but I am prepared to meet her whenever it is best for you and Mrs. Blake, sir." The chief replied. His expression remained neutral his demeanor as confident as ever.
Toby looked at his wife, “I’ll leave it up to her as it is most likely that I’ll end up finding myself under, yet another, avalance of PADDs if I make any firm plans.”
“Don’t look at me. Mine spawn like tribbles too.” Cait managed a right convincing smile. “We can go over to her day care. Her teacher will need to know anyway.”
“It’s up to you two, I’m afraid I have things I need to see to.” Toby grinned, “As much as I would like to see how Rose takes to the Chief, there are things I need to deal with here.”
"I am game," Tao said and continued, "I will need to hop over to The Shack and change into more appropriate attire for the job. It is important to me that Rose see me as an Au Pair and not a Petty Officer in the fleet. That way if we encounter a Telepath or some other sentient race capable of seeing through visual truth Rose cannot subconsciously reveal the truth of the sitiuation and thus jeopardize mission safety. If you are in agreement with this I will dismiss and meet you at the school."
