to Paradise IV (IC)
[Sydney, Earth; Stardate 910115.08]

The man that materialized in the main lobby of Billiton Mining
Incorporated looked every bit like he belonged. Every article of
clothing he wore from his shoes to his classic three piece suit had
been handmade by some of the finest in their craft. They clung to
him like a well formed glove a sign of the pride their respective
creators' took in their crafts.

His hair and thin goatee had been meticulously groomed to perfection
and all of that time, money and care had allowed him him to do one
thing when he stepped off the transporter pad; blend in.

All around him moved high powered executives, financiers and captains
of industry each no doubt on important business with the mining
conglomerate. The man's manner of dress and the way he held himself in
their company showed he was one of them and as such they ignored him
completely. So he was easily able to move to the main receptionist's
counter in the middle of the lobby as the rest of the suits moved on
through to their own business.

"Excuse me," he said to the Vulcan man sitting at the desk. "My name is
Amadeus Burr, I have an appointment with Mister Goodyear." The Vulcan
man nodded and looked down at the console in front of him. After typing
in a few commands the Vulcan looked back up at the newcomer.

"I am sorry, sir but Mister Goodyear is no longer conducting business
operations from our Sydney Headquarters. He has sent a request that you
join him on Paradise IV."

Amadeus gave the receptionist a look of confusion, "I'm sorry, I don't
believe I know where Paradise IV is."

"Neither do I, sir. However, Mister Goodyear has arranged for
transportation. That cannot be right..." The Vulcan trailed off as he
typed into the console.

"What is it?" Burr asked immediately, wondering what new twist this day
would bring.

"Sir, apparently Mister Goodyear has sent the Money Shot to pick you up
and take you to Paradise IV."

"The Money Shot?"

"Yes, sir. The Money Shot is Billiton's company staryacht. I assure you
it is of the highest luxury and will ensure you trip is a comfortable one."

Burr nodded and reached up to adjust his tie. "When do I leave?"

"Three days, sir. I will have all the appropriate information forwarded
to you by the end of the day."

[Paradise IV; Present Day]

Paradise had not at all been what Burr was expecting. The frozen hell
that awaited outside the domes coupled with the complete devastation the
quake had wrought had convinced him of 'Mister' Goodyear's insanity.
That is until he remembered the mining survey reports he had read on the
trip from Earth, and slight smile came to his lips.

'Crazy like a fox,' he thought to himself as he sat in the makeshift
waiting room of Billiton's newly established Paradise IV Headquarters.
The receptionist, this time a beautiful betazoid woman no doubt hand
picked by Goodyear himself, smiled at him.

"I'm sure Mister Goodyear will be along shortly, Mister Burr."

"It is quite alright, I know Mister Goodyear is a busy man." The
receptionist nodded and gave Amadeus a warm smile which he returned.

Chip walked in, he had his tie undone and had a cigar hanging from his
mouth. "Now, Now Lucille, you know, your supposed to save that smile
for me." Chip said with a huge cheesy grin on his face. He then turned
his attention to Amadeus Burr, "You must be Burr. My names Chip, Chip
Goodyear, and I am sorry I drug you halfway across the known galaxy to
meet me, but something's are best not discussed over subspace, and my
legal affairs always fall in that category." Chip chuckled and winked
at the busty Lucille who sat grinning behind her desk.

Amadeus stood and shook Chip's offered hand. "That is quite alright
Mister Goodyear. Considering the comfort of the trip out here I am more
than happy to comply."

Chip turned and motioned Burr to follow. They stepped through the inner
threshold to the inner sanctum of Billiton. Chip's office was built in
amazing detail, and appeared as something out of the 20th century, Chip
moved toward the massive and very old mahogany desk from where he
controlled an empire. Chip took a seat in his imposing chair behind the
desk, and motioned for Amadeus to have a seat in the very comfortable
looking chairs that sat across from the desk.

Amadeus followed him into the ornate office giving it a good long
looking over. He sat down without a word as he considered the costs to
furnish a room like this way out in the backwaters.

Chip opened his left desk drawer, and pulled out a electronic climate
controlled cigar box, and offered one to Amadeus.

Amadeus accepted the cigar without hesitation. He reached into his left
breast pocked and pulled out his own cigar cutter and lighter. After
lighting it up and taking a few puffs he turned his attention to the
matters at hand. "I understand you have made some hand shake agreements
with the Starfleet officers running this place."

Chip grinned, he was going to like this guy, he carried his own cigar
cutter. "I always have some hand shake agreements going somewhere,
Starfleet is the worst at it, cause they have too many regulations. I
don't like regulations. Never have. Never will."

Amadeus nodded, "Yeah, don't do that anymore. Hand shake deals leave
you open to litigation. In fact... you shouldn't be making anymore
deals with anyone unless I am in the room with you. If something goes
wrong with this construction project Billiton could be left holding the
metaphorical bag."

He leaned forward, not giving Chip a chance to respond. "Also, I
have some ideas on how to protect your operations here from litigation.
First thing we do is put every piece of property Billiton owns under
its own subsidiary company. Then, we mortgage each property to the
hilt. That way if someone sues the subsidiary declares bankruptcy and
Billiton is protected. Not to mention the mortgages will give you a
much needed infusion of liquid assets."

Chip blinked. Normally he controlled the conversation. This was
different. "And what makes you think you're the right person to
implement such a large thing at Billiton? Whoever we hire, will have
more credits than they know what to do with. I have met with 5 guys in
suits just like yours, granted none of them carried their own cigar
cutters."

Amadeus raised an eyebrow, "How many of them have gone through the
Cardassian education system, have a MBA from Harvard and a law degree
from Yale? Not to mention, how many of them pointed out how vulnerable
you've made yourself? In fact if I had to guess most of them came in,
sat down, smoked your cigar even if they didn't like cigars, and then
proceeded to kiss your ass."

The lawyer leaned back and took another puff on the cigar. "If that is
want in your lawyers then by all means hire one of them because frankly
I wouldn't want to work for someone that stupid anyway." A smile formed
on his face. "But we both know you're not that stupid."

"You better believe I am not that stupid Amadeus, but what else can you
do for me besides protect my holds filled with money? What else do you
bring to the table." Chip leaned back and took a big drag and blew
several thick rings of smoke.

Amadeus kept his smile, "This is about protecting the company as a
whole. Including your workers and investors. I doubt they would like
the idea of you leaving the company open to litigation."

He shook his head before continuing, "I am far from a being a stupid
man, I have a masters in business, a law degree and in thirty seconds I
outlined a way to protect your company and increase your revenue
stream. Thus making aforementioned investors very happy about this
little side adventure of yours. What else do you need me to be able to
do?"

Chip leaned back.. "Hmm... Happy Investors do keep them quiet." Chip
grinned a grin as if he were a cat, having caught his prey between his
claws. "Let's give it a try, you that is, but you will remain here on
Paradise and will consult me on issues here as well. I don't want the
board knowing I have hired you yet. You may come to love this, frozen
tundra of a planet yet Mr. Burr."

"I don't have to love it Mister Goodyear." He stood up and tapped the
ash from his cigar into the ashtray. "As long as it makes good business
sense to be here then I'll be here. Now," he sat back down as he
continued, "let us discuss my compensation."
